QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT WARWICK TURF CLUB WARWICK – SATURDAY 26TH DECEMBER 2020 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD 4 RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – R Hitchener Stewards – J Childs, T Preston & B McErleanClerk of Scales – D Rossiter Judge – S FaheyVeterinarian – C Reardon Swab Attendants – D McDonaldStarter – C Wallace Apprentice advocate – B Saunders GENERAL REPORT As Jockey S Bogenhuber was unable to attend todays meeting due to an injury and Jockey J Morris was also unable to attend todays meeting due to being indisposed, rider replacements made as per the Stewards summary. Acting on a report that SPECIAL CASE (Trainer A Donnelly) which was engaged in Race 1 may have been subjected to treatment whilst being floated to the track, Stewards opened an inquiry into the matter. After taking evidence from trainer A Donnelly, as Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that SPECIAL CASE had not been treated in breach of the rules enroute to the track, the gelding was subsequently declared a late scratching @ 12:43pm. A number of items were seized from Trainer A Donnelly’s vehicle for analysis. Further both blood and urine samples were taken from the gelding. Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a time and date to be fixed. Race 1: TREVOR SCHOORL MEMORIAL Class 1 Handicap 800 metres SINE CURVE – Stewards accepted the explanation of Trainer T Hall for the late rider declaration of Jockey Q Krogh on the mare. SPECIAL CASE – Was declared a late scratching by order of Stewards @ 12:43pm. WINNINGTON – Was observed by Stewards when entering the mounting yard with blood in its mouth. The gelding was examined by the veterinary surgeon and subsequently was declared a late scratching @ 1:02pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies invested on SPECIAL CASE and WINNINGTON be refunded with the following deductions for the 2 late scratching’s to apply as follows: For bets placed prior to 12:45pm 1st #2– 15c the win, 15c the place 2nd #4 - 12c the place3rd #1 – 12c the place For bets placed between 12:45pm and 1:02pm 1st #2 – 3c the win, 5c the place 2nd #4 - 4c the place3rd #1 – 3c the place ISAREADY – Jockey L Tilley advised that after being slightly slow to begin the gelding then failed to muster early speed during the event however found the line strongly over the concluding stages. Jockey L Tilley went on to say that in his opinion the gelding may be better suited over distances further than 800m moving forward in its preparation. SADDLE BOY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight proving somewhat difficult to ride out. IMABARMAN – Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 200m. GYPSY TAP – Slow to begin. Race 2: PSP VIDEO - HAPPY NEW YEAR QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1200 metres TERRAJOHA declared a late scratching @ 7:45am. Stewards accepted trainer M Nolan’s explanation in relation to failing to scratch the gelding by the prescribed time. FESTIVAL PRINCE – Raced wide without cover throughout. LINTHORPE LAD – Placed in restricted room shortly after the start and lost ground. Steadied when awkwardly placed at heels passing the 1000m. VAIN LUKE – Hung out rounding the turn near the 800m. DANEWIN CONNECTION – Slow to begin.Hung out rounding the turn near the 800m. Leaving the 800m was forced wider when awkwardly placed at the heels of another runner which shifted out. BETTER IN THAN OUT – Jockey L Tilley was issued a $300 fine under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m, that being 6 occasions. LOUVRE LIL – Slow to begin. LUCY TOO – Over raced and proved difficult to restrain for a considerable distance during the middle stages. CIVITAS – A post-race examination of the filly revealed a minor laceration to the off hind pastern. Stewards questioned trainer D Reynolds in relation to the seemingly improved performance of the filly. Mr Reynolds advised that the stable had always had an opinion of the filly and as such had placed the filly in stronger races than that of today’s event in the early stages of its career. Mr Reynolds went on to say that in his opinion the significant drop in class for todays event combined with the step up in distance were the major contributing factors to the improved performance. Stewards noted the explanation. DRACONIAN HEART – Raced wide without cover throughout. ROMANCE FACTOR – Leaving the 800m was forced wider when awkwardly placed at the heels of another runner which shifted out. COMET'S ARCH – Near the 1000m steadied to avoid the heels of PASSTOW (App. Z Lloyd) which shifted in after being taken in by MR MAJESTIC (App. T Wheeler) which shifted in when not completely clear. App T Wheeler was advised to exercise more care. A Post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a significant laceration to the near hind tendon. Trainers representative J Barsby was advised the filly would require a veterinary certificate prior to next racing. Race 3: HYNES NEWSAGENCY / W. CAREY & SONS MEATS BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1350 metres THE HOOLIGAN – Stood flat footed at the start and lost considerable ground. Trainers representative Mr S Andrew was advised the stable would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate for the gelding prior to next racing. ABB ROY – Raced 3 wide without cover until a point near the 700m. Jockey B Moffat was issued a reprimand under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m, that being 6 occasions. FEARLESS QUEEN – Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 700m. UNRESOLVED – Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 700m. Race 4: RANBUILD WARWICK / WE R SIGNS Class 1 Handicap 1100 metres The start was delayed when KRUSTALLOS became fractious and reared in the barriers. The mare underwent a veterinary examination and was subsequently declared a late scratching @ 3:09pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies invested on KRUSTALLOS be refunded with the following deductions to apply as follows: 1st #7– 3c the win, 4c the place 2nd #1 - 4c the place3rd #10 – 3c the place Trainer M Hemmings was advised that the mare would be required to obtain 3 consecutive barrier certificates, 2 of which must be official trials prior to next racing. In considering the embargo Stewards were mindful of the mare’s poor record in relation to barrier related incidents. EXCEED ROCK – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. UBETWEDO – Momentarily held up rounding the home turn. Near the 150m was steadied when placed in restricted room. PALICKI – Began awkwardly and then raced in restricted room for a short distance shortly after the start. MILLY WILL PARTY – Slow to begin. Steadied from heels near the 900m. SKALD – Momentarily held up near the 250m. POROTA BEAN – Slow to begin. WHISTLIN' ARROW – Began awkwardly. Race 5: STEELE'S BAKERY & CAFE / ENSBEY ELECTRICAL BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1500 metres THE MINIVAN – Trainer M Kropp was issued a $100 fine under LR67 for the late declaration of Jockey N Tomizawa on the gelding. Momentarily held up and unable to improve near the 500m. ARUBA – Jockey B Appo pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100, that being 18 occasions. Jockey B Appo’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 12 days, to commence midnight 26/12/20 and to expire midnight 07/01/20. In addition, stewards imposed a $400 fine. Assessing penalty whilst Stewards were mindful rider penalty guidelines for whip rule breaches, they were also mindful of the significant nature of this breach. BY THE LAW – Raced wide from the 900m. STEINBRENNER – Slow to begin. Near the 1300m steadied from heels. GOTTA BE FIRST – Raced 3 wide throughout. RUN PAM RUN – Jockey L McCoy was issued a reprimand under AR132(5) for using her whip in an excessive manner, that being 15 occasions in total. MAXIMUM HUSTLE – Jockey G Geran was issued a reprimand under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m, that being 6 occasions. DOMINANT WITNESS – Slow to begin MADAM MAHAL – Began awkwardly. Race 6: MAYDAN LIVESTOCK TPT / FREESTONE FEEDLOT MM COUNTRY CUP QUALIFIER OPEN 1200 metres MY BELLY BUTTON – Stewards accepted Trainer L Hatch’s explanation for the late rider declaration of Jockey Q Krogh. Upon entering the track, the gelding bounded on 2 occasions and as a consequence fell to the ground. Upon rising to its feet it was immediately obvious that a significant injury had taken place to the geldings offside fore leg. A Subsequent veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a catastrophic injury to the offside foreleg and therefore the gelding was subsequently euthanised on human grounds. As a consequence, the gelding was declared a late scratching @ 4:23pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies invested on MY BELLY BUTTON be refunded with the following deductions to apply as follows: 1st #7– 11c the win, 12c the place 2nd #1 - 8c the place3rd #10 – 14c the place The start time for Race 6 was amended to 5:07pm MR MARBELLOUZ – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be mildly lame in the left fore leg. ROSIE POSIE – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout. Near the 150m tightened for room and eased when VOULAIT (App. A Jones) shifted out when not completely clear. Apprentice A Jones was issued a reprimand under AR131(a). SILENT FLYER – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout. Apprentice E MacPherson was issued a $200 fine under AR211 for weighing in in an excess of 0.5kg overweight. COLPO DI TAMBURO – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. UNCONDITIONAL – Raced in restricted room for a short distance on jumping. CAMBOOYA ROCK – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout. Near the 150m steadied to avoid heels. Trainer J Ferguson was issued a $200 fine under AR206(1) for presenting the gelding to race in unapproved gear. ZOFGOLD – Apprentice N Fazackerley was issued a $200 fine under AR211 for weighing in in an excess of 0.5kg overweight.
