POWER PUNCH- Raced wide in the early stages. Settled further back than expected. Jockey K Yoshida advised that after beginning only fairly and being beaten for speed in the early stages his mount was caught wide passing the winning post on the first occasion and elected to steady and take up a position at the tail of the field along the inside running rail rather than settle in a wide position to the rear of the field. Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 4: TAB CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1200m

Declaration of correct weight was delayed when App J Molloy, rider of 2nd place getter BOOM BY BY, lodged an objection against 1st place getter JACK BE LUCKY (App E Lang) being declared the winner alleging interference on entering the home straight. After taking evidence from the riders involved and connections of the runners as well as viewing the official patrol footage Stewards ascertained that soon after entering the home straight JACK BE LUCKY had commenced to lay in and shifted across the running of BOOM BY BY obliging that runner to then shift out to obtain clear running. As Stewards could not be satisfied that had the shift from JACK BE LUCKY, which caused no real interference to BOOM BY BY, not occurred that BOOM BY BY would have passed the post before that runner and bearing in mind the official margin of a short half-head the protest was dismissed, with correct weight declared on the Judges semaphored numbers.

LITTLE WAND- Slow into stride before being steadied off heels soon after.

BOOM BY BY- Began awkwardly. Raced keenly passing the 600m. Shifted out soon after entering the home straight to obtain clear running.

ALBANJO- Buffeted on jumping. Shifted in and away from heels passing the 1000m before becoming awkwardly placed on and obliged to steady from heels near the 950m and again near the 900m when bumped.

DREAM ENTITY- Raced keenly in the middle stages.

CALGARY KING- Bumped and taken wide by another runner which shifted out when over-racing passing the 900m.

Race 8: TAB CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1500m

TYCOON PLAYER- As App E MacPherson was to be overweight Stewards permitted App J Williams be substituted as rider of the gelding. App E MacPherson was fined the sum of $100 under the provisions of AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. Stewards inquired into the tactics adopted on the gelding which settled outside KIKI COCO, which was racing keenly, and led the field by a considerable distance before compounding in the home straight. App Williams advised his instructions had been not to restrain his mount and as such he let it stride forward. Trainer S Barker corroborated the instructions and advised that, in his opinion, the gelding is better suited to events over further distances and is more appreciative of female riders. Stewards noted the explanations.

TRACKMAN- Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages.

CUTABRI- Began awkwardly. Finished tailed off. Jockey J Murphy advised his mount never travelled comfortably in running and failed to respond to his urgings when pressured. Trainer K Jones stated he too was disappointed with the performance and could offer no tangible reason for it. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

FIOCCHI- Raced keenly in the middle stages.

KIKI COCO- Raced keenly and laid in for the majority.
