QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT WARWICK TURF CLUB WARWICK – SATURDAY 8th OCTOBER 2022 WEATHER – Fine/Overcast TRACK RATING – Soft 7 Races 1 & 2, Soft 6 the remainder; Soft 7 1500-1400m RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C WarrenStewards – J Childs, W Glass, D MacDonaldClerk of Scales – T PailthorpeJudge – S FaheyVeterinarian – Dr K WidderickSwab Attendants – A ChallenStarters – T Woodham Race 1: GROSS WHOLESALER MEATS FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1350m Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view the footage of the concluding stages to ascertain whether grounds for an objection existed on behalf of connections of 4th placegetter FLYNG JOY against 3rd placegetter LATIN LYRIC. After viewing the footage Stewards determined that the bump between the two runners passing the 50m occurred as a result of shifts from both FLYING JOY and LATIN LYRIC and subsequently declared correct weight on the Judges numbers. FLYING JOY- Began awkwardly and shifted out. Raced keenly down the back straight. Held up for clear running from the 400m until entering into the home straight and shifting wider. Raced greenly down the running and bumped passing the 50m. SHEZANUISANCE- Began awkwardly. TWO TIME GIRL- Raced keenly down the back straight. Raced wide for the majority. Jockey L McCoy advised that her mount had been inclined to race greenly throughout. FRIJOLES- Laid out passing the 700m and became awkwardly placed on heels having to be eased. Laid out under pressure down the running. BOUT- Eased from the 1000-900m to obtain a position with cover closer to the inside running rail. Held up for clear running for a short distance leaving the 400m. OBSIDIAN ROSE- Laid out rounding the home turn. LATIN LYRIC- Bumped passing the 450m, laid out under pressure down the running bumping with another runner passing the 50m. Raced wide for the majority. IN A MINUTE RILEY- Bumped passing the 450m. App J Molloy was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on 8 occasions, 3 more than permitted prior to the 100m. HYPERION ANGEL- Jockey M Savva was cautioned under the provisions of AR132 regarding her use of the whip on a beaten runner. Race 2: HUTCHINSON CONTRACTING COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES MAINDEN HANDICAP 1350m ORACLES DRUMMER- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Underwent a further pre-race veterinary examination at the barrier on request of the rider and was passed fit to start. Laid in for the majority, crowding runners to it inside near the 800m. Jockey M Murphy was advised to exercise greater effort in straightening his mounts in similar circumstances. MAILOUT- Began awkwardly. Shifted out marginally approaching the 200m. SWEET WIND- Bumped on jumping. SEQUOIA CHIEFTAIN- Began awkwardly. Crowded passing the 800m. Shifted out passing the 300m to obtain clear running. Disappointed for a run passing the 200m. GIRRAMAY- Bumped on jumping. Shifted in an away from another runner near the 800m crowding a further runner. LOCK AND LAUNCH- Shifted in under pressure down the running. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance Trainer M Faulkner advised that he had expected a forward showing in todays event being over a more favourably distance than the geldings most recent outings. Trainer Faulkner added that in its most recent start the gelding had had a difficult run and the disappointing result on that occasion was, in his opinion, excusable. Stewards noted the explanation. INCLUSION- Shifted in under pressure down the running. Raced wide for the majority. Performed below market expectations. Trainer/Jockey C Jokic stated that the gelding did not appreciate the track conditions and is better suited to firmer going. Stewards noted the explanation. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Following the running of this event the racing surface was upgraded to a Soft 6 Race 3: RANBUILD WARWICK- SCOTTY ELLIS MEORIAL BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1100m DOLLOP- Began awkwardly. App J Molloy pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) in that near the 900m he did shift in when insufficiently clear of GLOBAL FACTOR (S Lacy) causing that runner to be checked and lose its rightful running, before continuing to shift in and leaving the 800m did shift in when insufficiently clear of STRYKING PRINCESS (R Payne) causing that runner to be checked and lose its rightful running. App Molloy’s license to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period of 11 days to commence 17th October up to and including 27th October 2022. In determining penalty Stewards considered App Molloys guilty plea, his record in relation to the rule and the degree of carelessness and severity of interference which were deemed to be in the mid-range. App Molloy was advised of his right to an internal review. SHOCK AND AWE- Stewards noted the reasons tendered by Trainer G Banks regarding the late rider nonetheless, Trainer Banks was reprimanded under the provisions of LR67(1). Began awkwardly. Over-raced passing the 800m. GLOBAL FACTOR- Began awkwardly. Checked near the 900m and lost ground. STRYKING PRINCESS- Checked leaving the 800m and lost considerable ground. SAM’S A NATURAL- Raced keenly passing the 800m. Obliged to shift out and away from the heels of another runner which was being checked leaving the 800m. Performed below market expectations. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. App M Castle advised that, in her opinion, the gelding didn’t handle the prevailing track conditions. DREAM ENTITY- Obliged to ease and shift out to avoid the heels of another runner which was being checked leaving the 800m. Disappointed for a run approaching the 200m and raced in restricted room on heels for the remainder of the event, clipping heels and blundering passing the winning post and consequently, went to the line without being fully tested. When questioned Jockey M Murphy advised that after being disappointed for a run he was precariously placed on heels and unable to restrain his mount back to shift ground and obtain clear running. Jockey Murphy added that in hindsight he would have been better placed to shift to the outside to obtain clear running but initially he believed attempting to improve into the run between GLOBAL FACTOR and SERTIN was the best option, however when that run closed quickly he was unable to restrain his mount. Race 4: NUTURF RATINGS BAND 0-58 HANDICAP 1100m SWIFT MISS FOX- Began awkwardly. BOOMI’S BUDDY- Began awkwardly. CHEESIE- Began awkwardly. Held up on entering the home straight and tightened for room having to be steadied passing the 200m. PENNY STOCKS- Bumped on jumping. Bumped on entering the home straight and was bumped on the hindquarters again soon after, commencing to tire from that point. Raced wide for the majority. Jockey M Schrapel advised that having to travel wide for the majority of the event was telling in the finish. Trainer J Townsend advised that the mare would now be sent for a short freshen up before returning to racing. NEW YORK GAL- Bumped on jumping. Held up rounding the home turn and was obliged to shift wider on entering the home straight and bumped another runner. YUPPIE- Crowded soon after the start and bumped. STRUT- Blundered soon after the start. Raced wide from the 600m. SIR BULLEE- Crowded on jumping and bumped and became momentarily awkward on heels soon after. PETA CALADA- Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until a point approaching the 250m. MISS MOSCATO- Bumped another runner soon after entering the home straight. Raced wide with cover for the majority. STARS’N’RICHES- Geld up for clear running on entering the home straight until point leaving the 250m. Shifted out under pressure down the running. BUCKALTIUS- Laid in under pressure down the running, tightening CHEESIE passing the 200m. Jockey C Bayliss was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) as a result of this incident. Stewards determined that marginally after encroaching the line of CHEESIE Jockey Bayliss had exercised a reasonable degree of effort to correct his mount which did not respond however, this was deemed to be a mitigating factor in the incident. SPIRIT OF LUCK- Momentarily crowded passing the 200m. WORLD CHARMER- Raced wide for the majority. Race 5: FRASERS LIVESTOCK TRANSPORT NEWMARKET BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1200m AMERICAN SAINT- The start was delayed when a piece of gear was adjusted on the mare after being loaded. LAURIE- Raced keenly down the back straight. Over-raced on heels near the 800m. Bumped and obliged to check passing the 150m. STEINBRENNER- Jockey N Fazackerley pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) the particulars being that passing the 150m he did permit his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of LAURIE (App A Donald), bumping that runner and causing it to be checked and lose its rightful running. Jockey Fazackerleys license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days to commence 17th October up to and including 27th October 2022. In determining penalty Stewards considered Jockey Fazackerleys guilty plea, his record in relation to the rule as well as the degree of carelessness and interference which were deemed to be in the mid-range. Race 6: WARWICK HOTEL BENCHARK 60 HANDICAP 1350m MOUNTBATTEN- Bumped on jumping. Laid out for the majority. TIERRA DEL FUEGO- Bumped on jumping. Raced wide for the majority. TYCOON DANCER- Began awkwardly shifted out and bumped. SECRET KING- Bumped on jumping. GRANDIOSO- Tightened when buffeted on jumping. Raced keenly on heels leaving the 800m. Shifted out across heels approaching the 200m to obtain clear running. Laid in under pressure down the running. CALM SEEKER- Raced wide for the majority. Race 7: WARWICK VET CLINIC CLASS 2 PLATE 1350m TRY TO BE GOOD- Stood flat footed as the start was effected and lost ground. Trainer’s representative N Hemmings was advised the gelding would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to again being permitted to start in a race. Hampered and momentarily eased approaching the 600m. KINGSFORD’S OWN- Shifted in approaching the 600m momentarily hampering TRY TO BE GOOD. Jockey L McCoy was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Momentarily hampered and obliged to ease leaving the 600m. LINCOLN TOWN- Shifted in marginally passing the 1300m. Bumped passing the 1200m. JONDY ROCKET- Laid in passing the 600m momentarily hampering KINGSFORD’S OWN. Jockey S Lacy was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. MISHANI PHAROAH- Bumped passing the 1200m. Raced wide for the majority. ROSA OF TAORMINA- Marginally crowded passing the 1300m. Race 8: WARWICK CREDIT UNION WARWICK CUP OPEN HANDICAP 1500m GENERAL ELLIOT- Slow into stride. ABB ROY- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Crowded on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages of the back straight. At the trainers request underwent a post-race veterinary examination which found a minor laceration to the near fore fetlock consistent with being galloped on. OVERSEAS- Hampered passing the 1200m. KUZCO LAD- Shifted in passing the 1200m hampering OVERSEAS. App C Collis was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) and advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. WHAM- Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. On returning to the mounting yard was found to have bled from both nostrils in running. As this was the second such occurrence trainer L Hatch was advised that under the provisions of AR79 the gelding would now be barred from racing in Australia. A post-race veterinary examination was conducted with no additional abnormalities detected. App J Molloy pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(b) in that he did fail to ride his mount out to the finish of the race subsequently dead-heating for 4th and costing WHAM outright 4th place. App Molloy was subsequently fined the sum of $400. Race 9: DD EVENT HIRE BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 2000m BEG ME- Trainer L Abbott was fined the sum of $100 under the provisions of LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider on the gelding. WAIKATO- Began awkward and was crowded soon after, becoming momentarily awkwardly placed on heels as a result. Raced keenly passing the 900m. DELAYED LAUNCH- Bumped on jumping. OUR SPIDER- Shifted out and bumped on jumping. Inclined to lay out for the majority. HEART OF A LION- Under pressure from the 600m. Trainer M Currie advised that, in his opinion, the mare failed to handle the prevailing track conditions and noted its previously poor performance at the track on a similar surface. Mr Currie also stated that the mare may be coming to the end of its preparation. App J Molloy was fined $200 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on 8 occasions, 3 more than permitted, prior to the 100m. KIRRO- Jockey M Schrapel advised that his mount had been inclined to race keenly for the majority and as such settled further forward than he had intended, stating further that these factors were telling in the finish.
