Stewards inquired into the circumstances surrounding Jockeys M Hellyer and W D’Avila being dislodged soon after passing the winning post. After taking evidence from the riders involved and reviewing the patrol footage it was ascertained that approaching the winning post PIZZO (J Stanley) was laying out under pressure despite the efforts of its rider, CALM SEEKER (App A Donald) and DAZZLING FLASH (M Hellyer) were both laying in under pressure. On passing the winning post DAZZLING FLASH was tightened between PIZZO, which was laying out rounding the turn out of the home straight, and CALM SEEKER and subsequently clipped the heels of PIZZO before blundering, falling and dislodging Jockey M Hellyer. ABB ROY (W D’Avila) which was trailing shied away from the fallen horse and dislodged Jockey W D’Avila. As Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that any rider/s could be held culpable for the incident no further action was taken. Nonetheless, all riders were advised to exercise greater care in ensuring their mounts race true approaching the winning post in future. Jockey D’Avila sustained mild facial injuries in the incident and was transported to Warwick Base Hospital for observation and treatment. Jockey D’Avila was advised he would require a medical clearance and a cognitive assessment prior to again being permitted to ride in a race. Jockey M Hellyer was cleared of serious injury by QAS officials but stood down from his remaining engagements and advised he would require a medical clearance and a cognitive assessment prior to again being permitted to ride in a race. DAZZLING FLASH underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Nonetheless, given the circumstances surrounding the incident and the fact the mare had remained in a recumbent position for an extended period after falling Trainer T Sears was advised the mare would require a veterinary clearance prior to again being permitted to start in a race. As Jockey Hellyer and Jockey D’Avila were stood down from their remaining engagements rider changes were made as per Stewards race day summary.
