Race 1, No. 5 GROVERS PREDICTION – Stewards permitted N. Fazackerley to ride 1kg over the allotted weight of 55.5kg.
 
Race 4, No. 12 UNUSUAL MELODY – When Apprentice M. Castle was indisposed for personal reasons, Stewards permitted M. Savva to be declared the placement rider.
 
 
Race 1: QLD STATE EMERG SERVICE WARWICK QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 60 HCP (800m)
 
I AM THOR – Began awkwardly, shifted out and contacted NIC’S DREAM. Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight. Approaching the 200m, taken wider when KING OF THE JUNGLE was momentarily inconvenienced by HAYAI UMA which shifted out.
 
KING OF THE JUNGLE – Laid in under pressure rounding the home-turn. Approaching the 200m momentarily inconvenienced and obliged to shift wider when becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of HAYAI UMA which shifted ground.
 
HAYAI UMA – Approaching the 200m, shifted ground under pressure, taking KING OF THE JUNGLE wider onto I AM THOR. Apprentice A. Donald was advised to exercise greater care.
 
BORN TO BE ALIVE – Change of Tactics; Trainer B. Baker advised it would be the intention of the stable for the mare to be ridden more conservatively in an attempt to obtain a position with cover. Settled off-pace.
 
NIC'S DREAM – Hampered between runners on jumping and obliged to steady. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 2: GILLOTT CONSTRUCTIONS CLASS 5 HANDICAP (1500m)
 
OSTERMEIER – Stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost ground.
 
GRECIAN LASS – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
FOXY FRAULIEN – Performed below market expectations. Jockey N. Tomizawa stated the mare wasn’t suited by the steady early tempo of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
LUCASAYD – Began only fairly.

PENNYWORTH – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ANGELS SHARE – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
EXTASSY – Inside the 1100m, commenced to race keenly when attempting to obtain a position with cover. Approaching the 100m, momentarily taken wider when GRECIAN LASS laid out.
 
Race 3: WARWICK QLD POLICE SERVICE MAIDEN HANDICAP (1100m)
 
NEW JET – Eased down in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near-foreleg. Trainer R. Hilton was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again.
 
AFFINITY FLYER – Trainer I. Turner was fined $200 under LR36(6) for failing to scratch the mare which was a dual acceptor by the prescribed time.
 
AIRBORNE HOTDOG – Co-trainer C. Geran was fined $200 under LR67 for the late declaration of Apprentice A. Donald as the rider of the gelding. Began very awkwardly, striking Apprentice A. Donald in the head. Apprentice A. Donald was subsequently examined by QAS medical personnel and deemed fit to fulfill her remaining engagements.
 
VEGETABLE LASAGNE – Began awkwardly.

ARIK LAD – Began awkwardly, shifted out and contacted SCAPINI. Approaching the 800m, commenced to over-race on heels, shifted out abruptly and blundered, contacting the hindquarters of LIQUEUR GOLD.
 
SCAPINI – Began awkwardly, shifted in and contacted ARIK LAD. Raced keenly in the early stages of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
LIQUEUR GOLD – Approaching the 800m, contacted the hindquarter of ARIK LAD which was over-racing. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
REDVEDEV (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 200m, taken wider by TYPHOON TIP which was obliged to shift out and away from the heels of ARIK LAD.
 
SAY IT'S SO – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages of the event.
 
TYPHOON TIP – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Approaching the 200m, obliged to shift out from the heels of ARIK LAD, taking REDVEDEV (NZ) wider on the track.
 
Race 4: WARWICK QLD FIRE & EMERGENCY SERVICE MAIDEN HANDICAP (1350m)
 
IDEELIC – Rider W. D’Avilla reported that the gelding appeared to get its tongue over the bit in the early stages of the event, and subsequently proved difficult to ride-out. Inside the 300m, when racing ungenerously, shifted out abruptly, contacting CHRISTMAS TIME, and in turn obliging DARLHISMA and CHAIRLIFT to shift wider on the track.
 
BANKONAJET – Raced wide and without cover from the 600m.
 
CHAIRLIFT – Approaching the 1200m, inconvenienced and obliged to steady when becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of CALLYWAG, which was carried in by MORDECAI. Raced wide and without cover from the 600m. Taken wider inside the 300m when IDEELIC shifted out abruptly. Apprentice E. Lang could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. Co-trainer M. Hoysted advised it was likely the mare would now leave the stable. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
CHRISTMAS TIME – Inside the 300m, bumped with IDEELIC, which was shifting ground abruptly.
 
DIS IS DUKE – Began awkwardly.
 
MORDECAI – Approaching the 1200m, when attempting to cross to assume a leading position, placed LADY LETHAN in restricted room. In turn placing pressure onto CALLYWAG, and CHAIRLIFT who was following, was obliged to steady. Rider M. Murphy was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding. When questioned regarding the improved performance, Trainer J. King stated that the gelding had pleased in its work leading into the event and in his opinion, he believed the gelding was under-represented in the betting market.
 
JENNI INDA JUNGLE – Stewards acceded to a request from trainer T. Lambourn for the late removal of the tongue-tie as part of the gelding’s approved gear. Trainer T. Lambourn was fined $100. Began awkwardly, shifted out and contacted CHAIRLIFT.
 
CALLYWAG – Approaching the 1200m, bumped with LADY LETHAN who was being directed inwards by MORDECAI.
 
LADY LETHAN – Approaching the 1200m, commenced to lay in and away from MORDECAI when being directed inwards by that runner, tightening CALLYWAG and bumping. Raced wide and without cover from that point thereafter.
 
TOO MUCH MAKEUP – Began awkwardly. Rider M. Hellyer was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in that he did inconvenience CHAIRLIFT and LADY LETHAN being inconvenienced and subsequently obliged to be taken wider rounding the home turn.
 
DARLHISMA – Began only fairly. Inside the 300m, obliged to shift wider when IDEELIC shifted out abruptly.
 
UNUSUAL MELODY – Inside the 300m, momentarily inconvenienced when IDEELIC shifted ground abruptly.
 
Race 5: ENSBEY ELECTRICAL BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1350m)
 
LUCASAYD – Began only fairly.
 
MOTION LEGEND – Inside the 1200m, obliged to restrain and lost its rightful running when KIKI COCO shifted in when insufficiently clear.
 
KIKI COCO – Apprentice S. Champkin pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that inside the 1200m, when attempting to cross and obtain a position close to the running rail, she did allow her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of MOTION LEGEND, which was obliged to restrain and lose its rightful running. Apprentice Champkin’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, to commence from midnight 24 August 2023, up to and including Friday, 1 September 2023. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account the interference and carelessness which was deemed to be in the low range, Apprentice Champkin’s good riding record, and her guilty plea. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice S. Champkin was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii))) in that she did use her whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
BADGERS NUTS (NZ) – Hampered on jumping. Approaching the 1200m, when assuming a leading position, commenced to over-race before establishing a margin on the remainder of the field before weakening under pressure in the home straight. When questioned, Rider M. Powell stated that the gelding, which was wearing blinkers for the first-time, proved difficult to restrain and subsequently he elected to allow his mount to stride forward. Co-trainer R. Tyrell stated that the gelding had pleased in it work wearing the blinkers, and it was now the intention for the stable to step the gelding up in distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
CAIRDEAS – Began awkwardly, before shifting in abruptly.
 
 
Race 6: CHECKMATE SAFETY BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP (800m)
 
CAPITAL REIGN – Knuckled severely on jumping and subsequently lost ground; settling further back than may have been expected.
 
COMMANDEERING – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
COPPER SUNSET – Tightened between runners on jumping.
 
MAXIMUM ALTITUDE – Began awkwardly.
 
UNDERHAND – Approaching the 700m, when assuming a leading position, shifted in abruptly across runners to its inside. Apprentice E. Lang was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
OUTBACK PLAYBOY – Trainer P. Rice was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding for being difficult to load. Began very awkwardly.
 
SPIRIT OF LUCK – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
 
LIVELY LASS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having raced at the Gold Coast on Saturday, 19 August 2023 and passed fit to start. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
 
Race 7: SJG PLUMBING & DRAINAGE BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP (1200m)
 
MILITARY KINGS - Apprentice T. Noble was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii))) in that she did use her whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
BETTER EXPLAIN – Approaching the 800m commenced to over-race when the pace slackened and obliged to ease.
 
SENSATIONAL REWARD – Inside the 900m, when attempting to obtain a leading position closer to the running rail, shifted in and inconvenienced KING OF WANCHAI who was obliged to steady before slackening the pace. Apprentice J. Molloy was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding and spoken to regarding the manner in which he reduced the pace of the event.
 
KING OF WANCHAI – Inside the 900m, obliged to steady when inconvenienced by SENSATIONAL REWARD which shifted in. Over-raced for a short distance thereafter.
 
TABULAM – Laid out under pressure in the middle stages and rounding the home turn. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding, in particular his decision to remain excessively wide in the early and middle stages, Rider D. Thornton stated he was issued with no specific instructions other than to attempt to maintain a mid-field position, as seen in the gelding’s most recent race starts. He further stated that the gelding failed to travel throughout the event, and only worked reasonably to the line when placed under pressure. Trainer B. Hull confirmed that no specific instructions had been issued, other than he had expected the gelding to settle mid-field. He further added that he expected a forward showing and expressed disappointment with the performance as the stable had supported the gelding. As the gelding had left the course prior to a post-race veterinary examination being conducted, Trainer B. Hull was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again. Stewards adjourned the matter to examine other aspects of the event.
 
BOLD RANSOM – Began awkwardly.
 
SIR PICCOLO – Raced keenly in the early stages. Approaching the 800m commenced to over-race when the pace slackened.
 
RADIANT QUEEN – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 800m commenced to over-race when the pace slackened.
 
 
Race 8: WARWICK QLD AMBULANCE SERVICE RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP (1350m)
 
BUIN ROAD – Rider C. Taylor reported the gelding over-raced throughout the event.
 
ROAD TO EMMAUS – Inside the 200m, shifted out momentarily inconveniencing PRITI PIPER. Apprentice C. Sutherland was advised to exercise greater care. Apprentice C. Sutherland was reminded of his obligations under AR131(b) in riding his mounts out to the line.
 
MOUNTBATTEN – Hung-in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SAGRADO – Raced in restricted room in the early and middle part of the home straight. Inside the 100m, obliged to shift out and around from heels to obtain clear running.
 
SOCIAL STAR – Declared a late scratching at 4:31pm on veterinary advice after harmlessly dislodging K. Mathieson enroute to the barriers and galloping a lap of the course riderless. Stewards ruled that the following deductions on all successful wagers prior to 4:31pm be deducted the following amount:
BETTER STRINGS - 7 cents the win, 7 cents the place
AWESOME AUDREY – 8 cents the place
SAGRADO – 7 cents the place
 
DISCONCERTED (NZ) – Apprentice J. Molloy was reminded of his obligations under AR131(b) in riding his mounts out to the line.
