GENERAL



When Apprentice A. Donald, and Riders T. Brooker and B. Appo were all indisposed due to illness, Stewards permitted rider replacements as per the Stewards’ Race-day Summary. All riders were advised they require medical clearances prior to race-riding again.



Stewards permitted the following overweight:

Race 8, No.13 TEMPTRESS KATIE – C. Taylor (+1kg) – 55kg





Race 1: STITCH N WEAR EMBROIDERY MAIDEN PLATE (1350m)



DUSTYIAM – Began awkwardly.



SNAKESKIN – Raced wide until obtaining a position with cover approaching the 800m.



SPHERECRAAFT – Leaving the 800m, when racing wide, attempted to shift in to obtain cover and in doing so, directed WHISKY TYCOON inwards. Rider W. O’Connell was advised to exercise greater care. Gave ground abruptly in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have suffered bilateral epistaxis for the first occasion. Co-trainer C. Geran was advised of the provisions of AR79(4).



WHISKY TYCOON – Began awkwardly and bumped SEVERINE. Leaving the 800m, directed inwards onto heels when SPHERECRAAFT attempted to shift in.



AKEED'S GIRL – Slow to begin.



SEVERINE – Bumped on jumping.



TRUST A KITTY – Proved reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Trainer B. Ahrens was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s record for its pre-race behaviour. Began awkwardly. Rider W. D’Avila reported the mare felt uncomfortable in its action over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.



BRAVE HOSHI – Began awkwardly and bumped DUSTYIAM.



KICKS AND GIGGLES – Rider G. Cartwright reported that the filly became under heavy pressure leaving the 1000m and proved disappointing thereafter. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.



THE LITTLE SPARROW – Bumped on jumping. Laid out rounding the home-turn. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.



VAIN LUKE – Slow to begin. Apprentice S. Wilcock was reminded under AR132(6)(c) regarding her whip use when out of contention.





Race 2: WARWICK SANDSTONE MAIDEN PLATE (1350m)



ADELATION – Bumped on jumping. Bumped near the 200m when THE MAGICIAN commenced to race greenly.



BETTER EXCEED – Bumped near the 900m when MARLEE’S ZANDER commenced to hang-in severely. Commenced to give ground abruptly approaching the 800m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer S. Hilton was advised a warning would be place on the gelding’s record for being uncompetitive.



MARLEE'S ZANDER – Commenced to hang-in approaching the 1000m, crowding runners to its inside before being corrected by its rider. Raced wide and without cover thereafter, whilst continuing to hang-in throughout the event. Rider G. Cartwright reported the gelding proved difficult to ride-out throughout the event. Trainer D. Murphy was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.



PRIMARY WITNESS – Laid-out rounding the home-turn.



TIME FOR JACK – When Rider B. Loy was delayed due to transport issues, Stewards permitted Apprentice J. Molloy (non-claiming) to be declared the replacement rider of the gelding.



SMOKE 'N' OAKUM – Obliged to be shifted out and around heels to obtain clear running approaching the 200m.



SPECIALTIE – Laid-out rounding the home-turn. Rider E. Chaves was reminded of his obligations under AR131(b) to ride his mounts out fully to the finish.



THE MAGICIAN – Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight. Bumped ADELATION near the 200m.



LOVE ON DISPLAY – Laid out rounding the home-turn. Rider B. Ainsworth was reminded of his obligations under AR131(b) to ride his mounts out fully to the finish.



RED HOT LOVE – Began awkwardly and bumped ADELATION. Near the 900m, when attempting to obtain a leading position, shifted in when insufficiently clear of GYPSY WHITE SOCKS before slackening the pace, resulting in that runner being crowded onto SMASH IT MADDI. Rider N. Tomizawa was severely reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding.



SMASH IT MADDI – Crowded near the 900m between runners when RED HOT LOVE shifted in when insufficiently clear.



UNLEASH – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Performed below market expectations. Rider K. Zechner reported the gelding was not suited by the firmer track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.



GYPSY WHITE SOCKS – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. When crossed near the 900m by RED HOT LOVE, became awkwardly placed on heels, and obliged to shift wider, bumping with SMASH IT MADDI.



RODEO LEGEND – Began awkwardly. Tailed the field throughout the early stages, before improving onto the heels of BETTER EXCEED approaching the 800m and becoming awkwardly placed for several strides.





Race 3: CARS MADE EASY BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP (800m)



DREAM WEAVING – Laid out rounding the home-turn and under pressure in the home straight. Acting on a report from the Compliance Insurance Team, an inquiry into the post-race condition and welfare of the mare was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed. Trainer J. Edwards was advised a full veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again.



TURBOART – Bumped on jumping.



POLYLITHIC (NZ) – Began awkwardly.



COPPER SUNSET – Began awkwardly and bumped.





Race 4: WESTSIDE SHOPPING CENTRE CLASS 1 PLATE (800m)



BIG SKY COUNTRY – Approaching the 600m, shifted out abruptly, resulting in SHE’S SO VAIN becoming awkwardly placed on heels for several strides. Apprentice E. Lang was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding. Hung-out rounding the home-turn. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages, brushing with CHISUM.



ELECTRIC – Bumped on jumping and carried inwards.



SHE’S SO VAIN – Began awkwardly. Carried wider approaching the 600m before becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of BIG SKY COUNTRY.



CHISUM – Brushed with BIG SKY COUNTRY over the concluding stages.



GYPSY TRICKS (NZ) – Bumped shortly after jumping and became unbalanced for several strides. When attempting to improve, became awkwardly placed on the heels of NOW AND BEN for several strides nears the 400m. The gelding was found to have lost its off-hind plate in running.



NOW AND BEN – Began awkwardly. Laid in abruptly under pressure in the home straight, before blundering approaching the 100m.



BLACK COUNTRY – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.



AMANECER – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.



I'M A TINY DANCER – Severely hampered between runners shortly after the start. Rider K. Yoshida reported the filly subsequently settled further back than expected as a consequence which proved detrimental to its winning chances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.



STORY OF STELLA – Began awkwardly and bumped. Trainer L. Hatch was fined $100 under LR67 for the late declaration of Apprentice J. Molloy as the rider of the mare.





Race 5: DARLIING DOWNS HARNESS RACING CLUB BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1200m)



ONE REASON – Late scratching at 3:29pm when fractious in the barriers and getting its off-hindleg caught up in the gates for a significant period. Trainer P. Wallace was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record. Prior to the declaration of correct weight all monies invested on the gelding were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 3:29pm:



26 cents in the dollar for the for the win

19 cents in the dollar for the place on the winner

25 cents in the dollar for 2nd place

25 cents in the dollar for 3rd place



DAD'S LAD – Bumped on jumping. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying an upper-respiratory noise and a slow recovery. Stable representative B. Mackie was advised a veterinary clearance including an endoscopic examination would be required prior to racing again.



BOBBY AXELROD – When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance, Trainer B. Robinson advised that the gelding was able to lead and dictate in the event, whereas in its more recent previous starts the gelding had been trapped wide and obliged to cover significant ground which proved detrimental to its winning chances.



HEART OF MARBLE – Began awkwardly.



EASY COME – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice T. Noble was severely reprimanded under AR131(b) and advised she must ride her mounts out to the finish. In assessing the matter, Stewards couldn’t be comfortably satisfised her actions had compromised the gelding’s chances of finishing third in the event.



STRYKING PRINCESS – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages.



LICENCED AND READY – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.





Race 6: WARWICK HOTEL MAIDEN PLATE (1100m)



MICHITA – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.



TOO MUCH MAKEUP – Approaching the 900m, tightened between runners and hampered. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.



EXCLUSIVE DROP – Began awkwardly.



RUBY RED – Late scratching on veterinary advice at 2:04pm when the mare displayed swelling over its hip. Trainer R. Bowen was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again.



MISTER – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages before becoming awkwardly placed behind runners approaching the 900m.



LITTLE VAIN – Slow to begin.



SMOKIN' DE QUO – Shifted in marginally approaching the 900m and bumped EXCLUSIVE DROP.



NORTHWOOD POPPET – Approaching the 900m, became awkwardly placed on the heels of JUNGLE LAW, being obliged to shift wider, in turn crowding TOO MUCH MAKEUP onto EXCLUSIVE DROP who was tightened between that runner and SMOKIN’ DE QUO and subsequently bumped.





Race 7: SUPPORT CANCER CURE FOR MATT STANDING BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP (1350m)



KING OF THE DESERT – Late scratching at 3:50pm due to the track upgrade.



DEELOSH – Trainer C. Anderson was fined $100 under LR67 for the late declaration of K. Zechner as the rider of the gelding. Began awkwardly.



PRIVATE BANKER – Crowded between runners on jumping. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Performed below market expectations. Stable representative B. Mackie stated the stable were no disappointed with the performance, stating the gelding had missed a trial leading into the event due to rescheduling, and in their opinion, would gain a significant fitness benefit. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.



CHARGED – Raced wide and without cover until the 900m.



TAKUNAI – Raced keenly in the early stages.



BEAN ROCKIN – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having raced at Ipswich on Saturday, 13 January 2024 and passed fit to race.



SPIRIT'S CHARM – Began awkwardly.



SIR PICCOLO – Tailed the field throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Rider K. Yoshida was severely reprimanded under AR132(6)(c) for using his whip when out of contention.





Race 8: ENSBEY ELECTRICAL CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1500m)



SUPER DUCK – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Hung-out rounding the home-turn. Rider W. D’Avila pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131(b) in that he did fail to ride his mount out fully to the finish, which in the Stewards’ opinion did compromise the gelding’s chances of finishing fourth. Rider D’Avila’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days, commencing Tuesday, 23 January 2024, up to and including 29 January 2024. In assessing penalty, Stewards considered Rider D’Avila’s exemplary record in relation to the rule, his guilty plea, and the specific circumstances involved. Rider D’Avila was advised of his rights to an appeal.



IRISH SALLY – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.



DARCHINIAN – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.



LAWBREAKER – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers and passed fit to start.



MONACO DELUXE – Slow to begin. Tailed the field throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.



BERNMARK – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.



TEMPTRESS KATIE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.



SINNAMON TOAST – Approaching the 200m, became awkwardly placed to the inside of REDVEDEV (NZ) and the running rail. Apprentice S. McCann was advised to ensure there is sufficient room to do so when attempting such narrow runs.



BETTER CLASS – Over-raced in the early stages of the event.
