As Jockeys K Yoshida, Appr Jky A Graham and T Brooker were not riding at todays meeting due to injury and illness respectively, rider replacements were made as per Stewards race day summary. All Riders were advised they would require a medical clearance prior to race riding again.

Acting under the provision of AR218 (4)(b) Stewards fined Appr Jky S McCann the sum of $400 for having a mobile phone in her possession in the Jockeys Room. When determining penalty Stewards considered Ms McCann’s general circumstances, forthright evidence, guilty plea, her record and remorse in relation to her actions today.

TOO MUCH MAKEUP- Trainer M Hemmings was fined the sum of $100 under the provisions of LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider. Due to backing up after racing at Ballina on the 25/1/2024 Stewards ordered the Mare undergo a post-race veterinary examination. This examination subsequently failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Stewards inquired into App S Champkins riding of the mare over the concluding stages and whether she did ride her mount out to the finish of the event and whether that inaction did cost her mount 1st place. After taking evidence from App S Champkin, Senior Jockey N Thomas, reviewing the patrol footage and considering the matter Stewards determined that as TOO MUCH MAKEUP had been shifting ground notably under pressure when commencing to tire over the final 100m and App Champkin had been obliged to stop riding and straighten her mount, along with consideration being given to the inclement weather and prevailing racing conditions Stewards, could not be satisfied that it was solely App Champkin’s actions which cost the mare first place as well as noting App Champkin’s actions were not unreasonable given the mares racing manners over the concluding stages in combination with the prevailing racing conditions.
