OFFICIALS

Chairman of Stewards – E. Tickner
Stewards – C. Warren, J. Childs, F. Hartford & D. MacDonald

Race 1: CLUB WARWICK RSL SPORTSBAR MAIDEN HANDICAP (800m)

BOOMTIME NOW – Began awkwardly and was slow into stride before being momentarily crowded. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Obliged to shift in near the 200m to obtain clear running. Jockey G. Cartwright advised that her mount had been inclined to race greenly throughout the event.

DUN WITH ROSES – Began awkwardly and was slow into stride, consequently settled further back in the field than may have been expected. Laid out rounding the home-turn. Steadied off heels and obliged to shift wider approaching the 100m to obtain clear running.

MIEUX – Bumped on jumping before being bumped again soon after with FREAKSHAKE. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to have bled from both nostrils for the first occasion. Trainer D. Bougoure was advised of the provisions of AR79(4). A post-race blood sample was taken for analysis.

VIGANOTTO – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.

LOOK IT'S LUCY – Apprentice E. Lang was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(b) in that she did fail to ride her mount out to the finish of the event. In considering the matter, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that Apprentice Lang’s lack of vigour over the final stages definitively had any tangible effect on the placings as well as considering the racing manners of LOOK IT’S LUCY, which was inclined to lay out and away from the winning post, over the final stages, becoming marginally awkwardly placed on the heels of FREAKSHAKE. Nonetheless, Stewards were of the view that Apprentice Lang’s vigour was below what was expected when all circumstances were considered.

Following the running of this event the racing surface was upgraded to a Good 3.

Race 2: OLSENS PRODUCE RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP (800m)

DIAMOND LASS – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid out and away from another runner near the 600m. Currie was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to again being permitted to start in a race.

TYPHOON TIP – Slow to begin. Laid out under pressure approaching the 200m and bumped. After beginning well from the wide barrier and being caught wide, was permitted to stride forward passing the 1200m and settled in a leading position along the inside running rail near the 1050m. Apprentice C. Collis pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131(a) of careless riding, in that approaching the 1100m he did exercise insufficient effort in preventing TYPHOON TIP from shifting in when insufficiently clear of ZIN ZAN READY which was obliged to ease when directed into the line of CRYPTIC SOUND who was obliged to restrain when dictated in and becoming awkwardly placed on heels. WIND RUSH FARM who was trailing CRYPTIC SOUND was also obliged to restrain. Apprentice C. Collis’ license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, commencing Saturday, 18 May 2024 up to and including Saturday, 25 May 2024. In assessing penalty, Stewards considered the interference and carelessness to be in the low range, the number of horses who suffered interference, Apprentice Collis’ record in relation to the rule and his status as an apprentice. Apprentice C. Collis was advised of his rights to an appeal.

MARCADA – Harmlessly dislodged Jockey J Stanley on exiting the mounting yard. Jockey Stanley was examined by QAS officers and deemed fit to fulfill his remaining engagements. Declaration of correct weight was delayed allowing Jockey L Tilley (DILIGENTE) to view footage of the home turn to ascertain whether grounds for an objections were present. After viewing the footage when Jockey Tilley and Stewards were similarly satisfied there were not sufficient grounds for an objection, correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers.

Kalinowski subsequently reported the gelding had pulled up well, and expressed disappointment with the performance, adding the stable had expected a more forward showing.

ALREADY BETTER – Bumped on jumping. Momentarily held up on heels passing the 400m before being taken wider. When asked to comment on the disappointing performance, Jockey D. Fazackerley pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131(a) of careless riding in that approaching the 1300m, he did make insufficient effort in preventing his mount from shifting in when insufficiently clear of A CERTAIN MAYBE who was obliged to restrain and dictated out, tightening the running of MAXIE TAP who was obliged to check off the heels of TOO MUCH MAKEUP before being taken outwards and bumping WHISTLIN RULER. Jockey Fazackerley’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, commencing Sunday, 19 May 2024 and up to and including Sunday 26 May 2024. In assessing penalty, Stewards considered the interference to be in the low range, however the number of horses interfered with to be an aggravating factor, Jockey Fazackerley’s excellent record in relation to the rule and his guilty plea. Jockey Fazackerley was advised of his rights to an appeal. When questioned regarding his riding in the early and middle stages, Jockey N. Fazackerley advised he had not intended to lead the field by such a margin however, his mount resented his efforts to restrain in the early stages and given the gelding had led in its previous starts, he elected to not excessively restrain.
