Race 6: SANDY CREEK SAUSAGE SIZZLE SLIPPER BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1350m)

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards considered a protest lodged by Apprentice B. Wheeler, rider of PARUES, (2nd place-getter) against I PROMISE YOU (1st place-getter). After hearing evidence from both parties, Stewards established that leaving the 900m, Apprentice C. Lowe (I PROMISE YOU) had shifted in marginally into the line of PARUES, however felt that Apprentice C. Lowe had immediately relieved the pressure. Stewards were further of the opinion that in this incident, Apprentice Wheeler had the opportunity to maintain his position. Stewards further considered the margin of 3/4L and the proximity of the interference to the finish line, and when they couldn’t be comfortably satisfied that PARUES would have finished in advanced of I PROMISE YOU had this interference not occurred, and subsequently dismissed the protest, and declared correct weight of the Judges’ Semaphored Numbers.

I PROMISE YOU – Shifted in when not fully clear of LUCKY BEAN near the 1000m which was obliged to steady. Apprentice C. Lowe was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding. Stewards inquired into an incident leaving the 50m, where it did appear that the gelding was obliged to steady when tightened for room and subsequently went to the line without being fully tested. Upon viewing the films and hearing evidence, Stewards identified that leaving the 50m, SHEER REWARD shifted in and away from BRINGME, which was laying in despite the efforts of its rider and simultaneously NERANO shifted out marginally, resulting in SHEER REWARD becoming awkwardly placed on heels, and further, resulted in SHOTGUN SIXTYFOUR becoming awkwardly placed on heels and having to steady. As Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the interference was directly attributable to one specific runner, Stewards took no further action than to advise all riders to exercise greater care.
