QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT WARWICK TURF CLUB SATURDAY 25TH JANUARY 2025 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 3 RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C. WarrenStewards – J Childs, S Coulthard, W Glass, D MacDonald. GENERALJockey L Dempsey was unable to attend today’s meeting due to illness, rider changes as per steward’s summary. Jockey L Dempsey was advised a medical certificate would be required prior to race riding. Stewards permitted the following overweights at today’s meeting: Race 5 – Jockey J Murphy +1kgRace 5 – Jockey J Stanley +1kgRace 6 – Jockey L Tilley +1kg Race 1: FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT KATHEE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1200m ADDICTED TO JULIA – After beginning only fairly was ridden conservatively and settled into a rearward position with cover. Raced keen passing the 1000m. Raced wide from the 600m. When asked to comment on the performance Jockey K Matheson stated, noting that after the gelding jumped awkwardly and was slow into stride, he was obliged to settle further back than ideal for the geldings racing pattern, adding that nonetheless his mount proved disappointing in its finishing efforts. THE DARK SIDE – Jockey J Stanley stated that, in his opinion, the gelding is better suited to events over further distances. Race 2: COUNTRY STYLE POOLS & SPAS / GR PRIME LAMB & PORK MAIDEN HANDICAP 800m PATOOTIE – Slow into stride. THE QUEEN OF TIME – Shifted out on jumping and bumped. Hung out from the 700m, racing extremely wide from that point and was not pressured in the home straight as a result. Jockey j Stanley advised that, on returning to scale, the mare had its tongue over the bit. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a slow post-race recovery. Trainer G Cornish was advised that the mare would be required to trial prior to again being permitted to start in a race. EGZAKLY – Approaching the 600m, laid out and away from another runner despite the efforts of its rider, momentarily hampering MHASAHN. NIRVANA THE STORM – Slow to begin. SPLIT THE CASH – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. QUARTER RED – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. SAPANA'S PEARL - Bumped on jumping. MHASAHN – Approaching 700m, was bumped on hindquarters and became unbalanced. Steadied from heels approaching the 600m. Raced wide for the majority. KINOSHITA – Approaching the 700m, shifted in and bumped MHASAHN before being momentarily steadied off heels. Again, steadied from heels and shifted in at the 600m before shifting in further and momentarily hampering RAZOR’S MAGIC. Jockey P Hamblin was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. FRAMED IT – Laid out throughout the event, commenced to hang out under pressure approaching the winning post before continuing to hangout after the winning post and almost dislodging the rider when narrowly avoiding the outside running rail. Trainer B Ahrens was advised that the filly would be required to trial prior to again being permitted to start in a race. RAZOR'S MAGIC – Steadied from heels leaving the 600m. Race 3: TERRY BROWN MEMORIAL QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1100m EXPRESS CODE - Was declared a late scratching at 2:15pm after refusing to load. Prior to the declaration of correct weight all monies invested on the filly were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 2:15pm: 44cents in the dollar for the win29cents in the dollar for the place on the winner20cents in the dollar for 2nd place34cents in the dollar for 3rd place Trainer M Currie was advised the filly would be require to officially trial under race day conditions to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to again being permitted to start in a race. BEE TWO – Shifted out on jumping and bumped on jumping. BESIEGE – After beginning well from the wide barrier was ridden positively in the early stages and settled in a more forward position than may have been expected. Laid in entering the home straight, momentarily becoming awkwardly placed on heels. DALEK – Shifted out and bumped when racing keenly near the 800m. Raced wide for the majority. DAY TO REMEMBER - Laid out approaching the 600m. Raced wide for the majority. HEADLINE LEGEND – Bumped the inside running rail approaching the 900m. Trainer J Thomas advised that the stable had expected a more forward showing with the gelding deriving a significant fitness benefit from its previous first-up run in the preparation and work leading into todays event. HEAVENLY LOVE – Bumped near the 800m. Awkwardly placed on heels approaching the 600m. JUST CLIFFY- Laid out on entering the home straight. Jockey B Andrews was fined $500 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that she did use her whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, Stewards noted use of the whip was 17times in totality. KOBABILITY – Laid out near the 800m. Momentarily awkwardly placed on heels and shifted out near the 600m. Raced wide for the majority. ROTHECATE – Bumped on jumping. LADY SEVERINA – Began awkwardly bumping ROTHECATE, before shifting in and bumping BEE TWO. Race 4: W.CAREY & SONS MEATS / WARWICK HOTEL BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1350m BORN FEARLESS - Momentarily held up for clear running near the 400m. NEW YORK GAL – Raced wide for the majority. ZASCEED – Slow into stride. BEAN BALL – Raced keenly approaching the 900m. TOO MUCH MAKEUP – Began awkwardly. Laid out at the 800m. Momentarily held up for clear running near the 400m. When queried regarding the seemingly improved performance Trainer’s representative N Hemmings advised the mare had derived a significant fitness benefit from its previous two starts this preparation and that the stable had expected a forward showing however, were nonetheless pleasantly surprised with the winning performance. Race 5: LYMPHOMA SUPPORT IN MEMORY OF MATTHEW STANDING CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1500m Declaration of correct weight was delayed whilst Stewards revied the relevant patrol footage to ascertain whether grounds for an objection on behalf of 2nd placegetter TYPHOON TIP against 1st placegetter NAUGHTY WORDS existed. Stewards determined that, NAUGHTY WORDS shifted out under pressure near the 50m and bumped with TYPHOON TIP. After considering the matter in its entirety including the margin, the minor nature of the bump, the manner in which both runners were finishing the event off prior and subsequent to the bump, as well as the beaten margin and took no further action with correct weight being declared on the Judges semaphored numbers. THREE GONGS – Slow into stride. BASIL'S BOW – Raced keenly in the back straight. SMOKIN MATCH – Raced keenly in the back straight. NAUGHTY WORDS –Laid out under pressure and bumped leaving the 50m. SIRI SAY RUBICK – Over-raced in the back straight. TYPHOON TIP – Laid in under pressure from the top of the home straight until the 150m when corrected by its rider. Bumped leaving the 50m. DOWN THE BARREL – App K Lenton was reminded of her obligations regarding whip use when her mounts are out of contention. Race 6: ENSBEY ELECTRICAL / FREESTONE FEEDLOT MAIDEN PLATE 1200m EXSIDEE – Momentarily restrained off heels and steadied near the 900m. FRED'S MEMORY – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the barriers after being fractious in the barrier and was cleared to start. Trainer P Wickham was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for being fractious in the barriers. Momentarily held up for clear running near the 250m. FREYA'S MAGIC – Raced wide for the majority. HOLLYWOOD EPIC – When questioned regarding the pace set in the early and middle stages Jockey B Lerena advised his instructions had been to be positive and obtain the lead, however after doing so and attempting to settle his mount, the gelding commenced to race keenly and did so for some distance despite his efforts. Jockey Lerena added that, in his opinion, the gelding may be better position to be ridden with cover in future. CRYPTIC SOUND – Hampered shortly after start when FRED’S MEMORY and EXSIDEE both shifted ground on jumping. Held up for clear running from the 400m before shifting wider upon entering the home straight. CEEKAY'S CHOICE – Awkwardly placed on heels of STARTLING CAT near the 900m before being shifted out. SWIFT SON – After beginning reasonably from a wide barrier and it becoming apparent his mount was to be posted wide Jockey J Molloy permitted the gelding to stride forward and settled in a more forward position than may have been anticipated. STARTLING CAT – Shifted in approaching the 900m made heavy contact with inside running rail and became unbalanced for several strides. Under pressure from the 500m and finished somewhat tailed off. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed a slow recovery and clinical signs of the thumps. Jockey L Tarrant advised that, the gelding may have resented the blinkers which it was racing in on the first occasion. Race 7: SJG PLUMBING / GILLOTT CONSTRUCTIONS CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1200m STING JET – Jockey J Stanley reported that the gelding travelled well throughout however when pressured compounded over the final 100m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have upper airway congestion. Trainer J Bruce was advised the gelding will require a veterinary clearance including the results of an endoscopic exam prior to racing again. GOT YOURSELF A GUN – Slow to begin. OUTSMARTED – Obliged to check from heels approaching the 250m. SNEAKY SHARK – Crowded for room shortly after the start. MASTER GEE – Laid out under pressure near the 100m before having to be corrected. MA'S EPIC – Attempts to obtain a pre-race blood sample proved unsuccessful due to the mares behavior making the process unacceptably dangerous for veterinary and swabbing officials. As such, Trainer R Beaton was advised of the provisions of LR33A(a) & (b) with the mare being stood down from racing or trialing until such time as Stewards are satisfied that remedial efforts have been made to improve the mares manners prior to its being presented to have a blood sample taken under race-day conditions. A pre-race urine sample was taken prior to its competing in todays event. Jockey B Lerena pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in that approaching the 250m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of MA’S EPIC, obliging that runner to be checked and lose its rightful running. Jockey B Lerena’s license to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period of 8days to commence 3 February up to and including 10 February 2025. In considering the matter Stewards noted Jockey Lerenas guilty plea, good record as well as the severity of interference and degree of carelessness. Jockey Lerena was advised of his right to an appeal. Race 8: HAPPY 60TH BIRTHDAY TRACY LAND RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP 1200m DUN WITH ROSES – Raced wide for the majority. GULF OF SIDRA – Proved difficult to load. Trainer V Heading was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings barrier manners as a result. GOOD RESULTS – Proved difficult to load. Trainer J Moore was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings barrier manners as a result. Laid in under pressure down the home straight. PRESS YES – Raced ungenerously approaching the 900m before making contact with the inside running rail and becoming unbalanced for several strides. Laid in under pressure down the running. REACHOVER – Slow into stride. SHORE TO HAPPEN – Trainer R Beaton was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider on the mare. After beginning only fairly from wide barrier and becoming apparent he would be posted wide, he permitted his mount to strive forward from the 1000m and settling in a leading position nearer the inside running rail at the 900m. Laid in under pressure down the running. MISSY'S READY – Slow into stride. MAD MISSION – Approaching the 900m was obliged to take hold after PRESS YES made contact with the running rail. Shifted on the outside of heels in the home straight to obtain clear running.
