SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

GOONDIWINDI 22nd February 2025

Race 1 – THE LARDER / SHOT 2 U MAIDEN PLATE 1400m

On Monday 3rd March 2025, Stewards inquired into the reasons NIA fell near the 800m. After taking evidence from App J Metcalfe (SHALZER), Jockey P Hamblin (NIA) and Jockey J Molloy (AZUKI) and viewing the patrol footage Stewards charged Jockey Molloy for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that passing the 800m he did permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of NIA (P Hamblin), causing that runner to clip heels and fall. Jockey Molloy pleaded not guilty to the charge and made submissions to that effect. After considering the matter further Stewards sustained the charge and found Jockey Molloy guilty. Jockey J Molloy’s licence to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period of 21 days to commence 12 March 2025 up to and including 1 April 2025.  Jockey Molloy was advised of his rights to an appeal.

GENERAL
As Apprentice C Vitler was not riding at today’s meeting due to illness, rider changes were made as per the Stewards summary. C Vitler was advised a medical clearance would be required prior to next race ride.

Jockey S Dempsey pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 218(4)(b) in that he was found in possession of his mobile phone whilst present in the male jockey’s room following the commencement of the race-meeting. Jockey S Dempsey was fined the sum of $300. In assessing penalty, Stewards considered his guilty plea, forthright evidence and unblemished record in relation to the rule. Stewards were also comfortably satisfied that Jockey Dempsey had not used his phone during the course of the meeting. Jockey Dempsey was advised of his rights to appeal.
