QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT NORTH GREGORY TURF CLUB - WINTON SATURDAY 6TH APRIL 2024 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – DIRT RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chair of Stewards – S. CoulthardStewards – K. McCracken GENERAL As Jockey R Faehr was unable to ride at today’s meeting due to illness, the following replacement ride was permitted:Race 5: C Bayliss Race 1: CURLEY CATTLE TRANSPORT BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP 800M BEGIN – Raced wide throughout. READY AND WAITING – Raced wide throughout. GOLD TRICKLE – Slow to begin. Race 2: WINTON ROADHOUSE CABINS & CARAVAN PARK MAIDEN PLATE 800M ANCIENT STYLE – Raced wide throughout. COLONEL VON TRAPP – Shifted wider rounding the home turn. DEFINITELY FAMOUS – Jockey J Hoopert was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(3) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the finish line. In determining penalty, stewards took into consideration that this was Mr Hoopert’s first offence under this rule and the very close proximity to the finish line when the gesture took place. LADY HURIBEL – Raced wide throughout. MARBLE ANGEL – Raced wide throughout. Jockey T Brummel reported that the mare had raced greenly throughout the race and the saddle slipped at approximately the 600m. Race 3: SEARLE'S CATTLE TRANSPORT QTIS CLASS 3 PLATE 1000MSOOPAT – Shifted out at the start forcing EXTRAWEIRD wider bumping ZOROSSA. Laid in under pressure down the home straight. ZOROSSA – Hampered on jumping as a result was slow to begin. Jockey J Baker advised on returning to scale that he struck his head on the barrier partition prior to jumping when ZOROSSA reared. Mr Baker was examined by QAS officers and a concussion assessment was carried out under the QRIC concussion protocol and Mr Baker was cleared to fulfill his riding duties. Trainer, R Hermann was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners. EXTRAWEIRD – Hampered on jumping when SOOPAT shifted out on jumping. Was pulled up at the 300m. An immediate examination by the on-course veterinarian revealed the mare had a significant injury to her near side fetlockresulting in the mare being euthanised on humane grounds. Samples were collected for analysis.Race 4: HBB ELECTRICAL BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1200M ANCIENT ECHOES – Jumped awkwardly hampering LOUIE THE LEGEND. SISTA ELENORE – After the winning post jockey J Baker dismounted and was treated by QAS officials for severe neck pain and was immediately taken to Winton Hospital for further treatment. Under the provisions of AR208(3)(b) Mr Baker was unable to weigh in and stewards declared correct weight on the judges’ numbers. DUNNERS – Raced wide throughout. LOUIE THE LEGEND – Hampered on jumping. Raced wide throughout. ON THE TAKE – Slow to begin. Race 5: CORELLA CATTLE COMPANY BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1400M HERE HE LOOMS – Raced wide throughout. Laid in during the early stages of the home straight. KING’S CONTRACT – Slow to begin. TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. PRIZED ARTIST – Made heavy contact with the rail entering the course proper from the mounting yard resulting in jockey T Brummel being dislodged harmlessly. PRIZED ARTIST then proceeded to gallop the entire course before being recaptured. After examination by the oncourse veterinarian the gelding was found to have a laceration to its near side fetlock, subsequently the gelding was scratched on vets’ advice at 4:42pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight all monies invested on PRIZED ARTIST were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions to be applied to all successful wagers placed prior to 4:42pm: 16 cents in the dollar for the win.19 cents in the dollar for the place. Trainer H Forster was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again, Mr. Forster was also advised that the gelding would be issued with a warning for its pre-race behavior. THE LANDING – Raced wide throughout. Shifted in abruptly at the 100m before being corrected by its rider. SIZZLESUN – As J Baker was unable to ride due to injury, SIZZLE SUN was declared a late scratching by order of stewards at 4:15pm as no other rider was available.
