RACE 1 - MAIDEN PLATE(SET WEIGHTS) 1000M
1st Craiglea Focus 2nd Manner Lassie 3rd My Little Dame 4th Delightsome
The start was delayed when NEW COPY proved difficult to load. Trainer J. Curtain was advised that a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of NEW COPY.
Stewards interviewed Mr J Curtain, trainer of Ferocious Jewel, regarding its poor performance in that it was not competitive during the race. Mr Curtain informed stewards that it was his intention to inform the owners to retire the filly from racing, however stewards advised Mr Curtain that if it was to continue racing it would have to pass in an official barrier trial prior to resumption of racing. Ferocious Jewel (R Payne) was vetted at the request of stewards and no abnormality was reported by the vet.
Ferocious Jewel (R Payne) and Delightsome (S Chan) raced wide throughout the event.
Jockey J Missen, rider of Manner Lassie, reported to stewards at scale that his mount hung out from 900 metres onwards.
New Copy (B Derbyshire) shifted out near the 600 metres inconveniencing Craiglea Focus (R Faehr).
Trainer Mrs N King was reprimanded for the late declaration of a rider for Delightsome.
RACE 2 – QTIS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1100M
1st Lily My Girl 2nd Decadent 3rd Desert Playboy 4th Western Maizcay
Jockeys M O’Brien and K Gates were both given permission by stewards to ride their mounts 0.5 kg overweight.
Notabitofwhite (K Gates) was slow to begin.
Tropical Heatwave (R Payne) and Women Be Shopping (T Williams) raced wide throughout the race.
Lily My Girl (C Spry) had to be restrained approaching the 1000 metre mark after improving onto the heels of In A Huff (M O’Brien).
Near the 50 metre mark Tropical Heatwave (R Payne) and Woman Be Shopping (T Williams) made contact when both slightly shifted ground.
Stewards interviewed Apprentice R Payne regarding the poor performance of Tropical Heatwave. Apprentice R Payne indicated that the horse did a lot of work when racing wide and may have resented the kickback. Tropical Heatwave underwent a veterinarian examination and no abnormalities were detected.
Apprentice T Williams, rider of Woman Be Shopping, was reprimanded for failing to weigh in for fifth.
RACE 3 – SMITHFIELD OPEN HANDICAP 1000M
1st Flight Command 2nd Amber Ale 3rd Golden Cash 4th Frenardi
Trainer Mr B Gill was questioned regarding the poor performance of Unique Fuse (J Missen). Mr Gill was at a loss to explain today’s run but suggested he may give the horse one more start and if it performs poorly he will consider retiring the horse. Jockey J Missen was also interviewed regarding the poor performance of Unique Fuse and in his opinion the horse may have felt a little short in its stride but could not offer any other explanation. Unique Fuse (J Missen) underwent a vet examination with no abnormalities detected.
Cosmic Demon (P Romeo) lost its near fore plate in running.
RACE 4 – LEWIS DUFF MEMORIAL CLASS B HANDICAP 1465M
1st Heart’n Soul 2nd Master Vinnie 3rd Alazani 4th Lemaitre
Correct weight was delayed when several jockeys, trainers and connections had concerns regarding the start of the race where Miss Mookychick (T Brooker) may have gained an unfair advantage. After all submissions were heard from all Jockeys including the starter and viewing all available films, it was established that Miss Mookychick made contact with the front gate and opened it just prior to the start being effected by the starter. Stewards had to consider whether the rest of the field were disadvantaged. Miss Mookychick (T Brooker) finished unplaced. It was the stewards opinion that they could not be comfortably satisfied that all other runners were disadvantaged and believe that this had no bearing on the result of the race and therefore declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored by the judge.
Gettin’ Jiggywithit (K Gates) began awkwardly.
Lemaitre (M O’Brien) reared as the started was effected, and lost ground.
Shortly after the start Nada to Prada (C Spry) was hampered by Astralin (R Payne), which shifted out.
Getting’ Jiggywithit (K Gates) hung out rounding the first turn, forcing Astralin (R Payne) and Nada to Prada (C Spry) wider on the track, resulting in Nada to Prada (C Spry) losing ground.
RACE 5 – BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP 1465M
1st Vain Dazzler 2nd Craiglea Blondie 3rd Glenthorn Avenue 4th Zip Zip Girl
Stewards ordered LADY'S COMMAND a late scratching at 155pm, after trainer B. Gill informed stewards that the mare was found to be lame. Trainer B. Gill was advised that LADY'S COMMAND would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again.
Spurring Spirit (M O’Brien) was slow to begin.
Lemax (C Kearney) began awkwardly.
Remy Martini (B Derbyshire) began awkwardly and lost ground.
Craiglea Blondie (R Faehr) raced three wide throughout the race.
Rounding the first turn Lemax (C Kearney) hung out, taking Spurring Spirit (M O’Brien) and Crazy Ways (I Coombes) wider on the track.
After passing the 100 metre mark Lemax (C Kearney) had to be checked when tightened for room between Glenthorn Avenue (J Missen), which shifted out slightly when weakening, and Craiglea Blondie (R Faehr), which shifted in under pressure. Jockey R Faehr was reprimanded for this incident and asked to exercise more care when shifting ground. A short distance later Glenthorn Avenue (J Missen) had to be steadied off the heels of Vain Dazzler (S Chan), which shifted out slightly. Apprentice S Chan was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances when shifting ground.
