Mr Petersen was fined $800 with $400 suspended for 2 years on the proviso that he does not breach the conduct rules within that period. In assessing penalty stewards took into account Mr Petersen’s forthright evidence, his longstanding good record over 60 years involvement in the industry and his guilty plea. Stewards were also mindful that this incident occurred in proximity and was audible to a number of people, the need for specific and general deterrence and this type of conduct cannot be tolerated.Race 1: TAB Class 6 Plate 950 metresASTRAL ODYSSEY – Slow into stride.FIGHT IN THE DOG – Inclined to lay in under pressure over the final 250m.Race 2: TRY A GREAT NORTHERN SUPER CRISP TODAY OPENHandicap 1300 metresThe start of this event was delayed due to Hamilton Race 1 running noticeably behind schedule.PLENTY – Began awkwardly and threw its head in the air. Improved 3 wide during the middle stages.VELARO – Was hampered at the start when the inside barrier partition bounced back and impeded the gelding’s forward momentum. Cast a near fore plate near the 900m.Following the running of this event the starter conducted an inspection of the barrier partitions in relation to then holding correctly once opened and any identifiable anomalies were rectified.Race 3: CASINO NIGHT @ RJC Maiden Handicap 1200 metresOSLEN (NZ) – Bumped after the start. Improved 3 wide from the 600m.IMARA – Jumped out at the start contacting MAVERICK HENRY, which in turn shifted out bumping OLSEN (NZ).MOON STALKER – Slow to begin. Jockey Les Tilley reported that in his view the gelding failed to stretch out properly during the run which may be attributed to the firm track surface. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.MISHANI JEWEL – Raced keenly during the initial stages.POWER LOAD – Jockey Tasha Chambers pleaded guilty to a charge under AR211(1) for returning to scale 1 kilogram over the weight that she weighed out at. Jockey Nathan Day was reprimanded under AR132(5) for applying the whip to his mount on 15 occasions in total (1 more than permitted).MATADOR – Raced keenly during the middle stages.CENTAUR – Shifted ground outwards under pressure over the final 200m.KELLERS SHELTER – Jumped awkwardly bumping MAIN DE FOI.DAWSON DIAMOND –TONTEIN – Raced 3 wide early and middle stages. Jockey Adam Spinks explained that he was hopeful of obtaining a forward position so elected to progress wide during the initial stages. Mr Spinks added that after rounding the first turn he considered restraining, however felt he would have to then race at the rear of the field so elected to continue forward. The jockey further added that once gaining a position one off the rail he attempted to offer his mount some respite. The jockey also stated that TONTEIN was inclined to hang out. When considering the statement of Mr Spinks and assessing the race pattern, stewards could not be satisfied that the tactics adopted by the rider were unreasonable in the circumstances.STAR OF LEON – Raced keen early stages.PHOENIX FLYER – raced wide early stages.DELIUS – Raced 3 wide with cover leaving the 800m.Race 7: FEEL LIKE PIZZA? CALL ROSCOS - 0749302290 RATINGSBAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1100 metresThe start of this race was delayed significantly due to TOY WHITTY rearing and becoming caught in the barrier structure. This gelding underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. The start was further delayed when FARMER’S FRIEND reared in the barriers and become entangled. This gelding underwent a veterinary examination and found to have abrasions to the left hind leg and showing signs of stiffness, no stand down was issued against this runner. FARMER’S FRIEND was declared a late scratching at 4.47pm on vets advice and the following deductions were ordered prior to correct weight; Bets on the winner to be paid less 7 cent the win and less 11 cents the place, bets on second place to be paid less 11 cents and bets on third to be paid less 5 cents in the face value of the ticket. All bets placed on FARMER’S FRIEND were ordered to be refunded in full.NEW YORK WORLD – Slow to begin. BETTER TO EXCEL – Raced 3 wide throughout.
