QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT ROCKHAMPTON JOCKEY CLUB YEPPOON – TUESDAY 12 SEPTEMBER 2023 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 3 RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – E. Williams GENERAL Stewards permitted the following overweights: Race 2 – T. Chambers – +1kg Race 4 – T. Chambers – +1kg Race 6 – T. Chambers – +1kgRace 7 – T. Chambers – +1kg Following a track inspection prior to the commencement of the meeting, Stewards had concerns regarding a wet section of the track between the 60m and 30m in the home straight. Following an inspection by senior riders engaged in the first race, Stewards acted under the Racing Queensland Race Meeting Procedures where those senior riders participated in a secret ballot to inform Stewards whether each jockey considered the track suitable to race. After conducting the secret ballot, the track was deemed suitable to race. Stewards advised that the track’s condition would be monitored following the running of each race. Race 1: VERAMAX Class 3 Plate (1300 Metres) AWESOME SPIRIT – Jumped away awkwardly. Made contact with the inside running rail passing the 1050m. YUBETIDO – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding today’s performance, Jockey J. Murphy advised that his mount failed to travel throughout the event and failed to respond to any of his riding urges. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. MURRAJONG ROAD (NZ) – Overraced in the early and middle stages of the event. Made an awkward stride near the 20m. NASHA – Shifted out on jumping. Overraced in the early stages of the event. Following the running of race one, riders raised concerns of a small wet section of the track near the 950m. Stewards acted under the Racing Queensland Race Meeting Procedures conducted a secret ballot with the jockeys engaged in the following race. After a majority vote, the track was deemed suitable to race. Following deliberations, Race 2 was rescheduled to commence at 2:04pm and Race 3 to race at 2:38pm. Race 2: GET YOUR CAULFIELD CUP TICKETS BM60 Handicap (1800 Metres) DEMURRAL – Slow to begin. BOLD HUSSAR – Slow to begin. When attempting to shift out to obtain clear racing room, was dictated inwards across the heels of STRUAN LAD when DEAL AN ACE shifted in before being straightened passing the 300m. Jockey J. Murphy was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for allowing his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear, carrying another running inward across heels, resulting in that runner having to check momentarily. PALATIAL PRINCE – Overraced throughout the event. Hung out rounding the bend passing the 700m. STRUAN LAD – Slow to begin. Raced wide in the middle stages of the event. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice J. Doolan pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on 10 occasions prior to the 100m, 5 more than permitted. Apprentice Doolan’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days, with the suspension to commence midnight 12th September 2023 and to conclude midnight 19th September 2023. VANA STAR – Was fractious in the barriers prior to jumping. Upon returning to scale, Jockey J. Stanley stated that it was his intention to settle in a leading position, however after his mount had dipped on jumping and as a result slow to begin, he was unbale to do so. Raced in restricted room for majority of the home straight before electing to shift inwards to obtain clear racing room passing the 200m. DEAL AN ACE – Shifted inwards under hard riding passing the 300m and had carried BOLD HASSUR in across the heels of STRUAN LAD. RUFFIN' IT (NZ) – Was held up in the early stages of the home straight before electing to shift in to obtain clear racing room near the 200m. Race 3: GREAT NORTHERN QTIS Three-Years-Old Handicap (1300 Metres) ORCA – Was slow to begin and bumped with MISHANI VALOR shortly after the start. Jockey J. Murphy was fined $400 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted. MISHANI AVIATOR – Jumped away awkwardly. QUARTERSHARE – Raced greenly throughout the event. Made the bend awkwardly upon entering the home straight. MISHANI VALOUR – Jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Bumped with ORCA shortly after the start. Race 4: NAB REGIONAL AND AGRIBUSINESS BM70 Handicap (1300 Metres) SIDEARM – Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages of the event. DUCHESS ADELE – Slow to begin. MILKY ROCKET – Raced wide throughout the event. SCARLET DESIRE – Held up in the early stages of the home straight. WHISKEY ROW – Raced ungenerously throughout the event. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding record for its racing manners. Race 5: KENNAS CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS Open Handicap (1000 Metres) GOLDEN ATHENA – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. COCHRANE – Stewards granted permission for Apprentice J. Doolan to not claim any of her 3kg allowance. Apprentice J. Doolan was fined $200 under the provisions of AR143(14)(a) for failing to claim her apprentice allowance. Bumped on jumping by TORQUE SENSATION which shifted in. SPLASHER – Blundered on jumping and as a result was slow to begin. Raced wide throughout the event. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. MISTER LARRABEE – Slow to begin. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. TORQUE SENSATION – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, bumping COCHRANE. ABSOLUTE LEGEND – Overraced in the early stages of the event. Held up in the early stages of the home straight. Laid in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages. Race 6: TAB Maiden Handicap (1000 Metres) The start of the race was delayed approximately 2 minutes after BALEXIA had broken through the barriers after being loaded and was quickly restrained by its rider. Underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was cleared to start. GULF OF SIDRA – Jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Shifts out to obtain clear racing room to the outside of BALEXIA near the 150m. THE LAST SAGA – Raced ungenerously in the early stages of the home straight. Laid in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages. BETTER OFF SINGLE – Upon returning to scale, Jockey R. Wiggins advised stewards that in his opinion his mount felt awkward over the concluding stages. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the mare to have poor post-race recovery. BALEXIA – Laid in abruptly when placed under pressure passing the 200m. SECRET SONNETS – Blundered shortly after jumping. GOLDIE'S POWER – Raced wide in the early stages of the event. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. MAGNUSDOTTIR – Jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Race 7: CAPRICORN SURVEY GROUP 0 - 55 Handicap (1000 Metres) GLOWSTICKS – Raced wide in the early stages of the event. NANO STAR – Overraced throughout the event. Shifted in momentarily near the 800m and bumped with MISS DAURIAN when being restrained. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from one nostril. Trainer K. Smyth was advised that NANO STAR would be required to gallop 1000m in the presence of Stewards prior to its next future race start. ASTRAL ODYSSEY – Held up for majority of the home straight before shifting wider to obtain clear racing room passing the 100m. PARA PARK CHANCE – Stewards granted permission for Apprentice J. Doolan to ride her mount 0.5kg overweight as there were no other suitable riders available. Apprentice J. Doolan was fined $200 under the provisions of AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. Laid out over the concluding stages. MISS DAURIAN – Bumped passing the 800m by NANO STAR when it shifted in momentarily. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Raced in restricted room and was held up before shifting outwards to obtain clear racing room in the home straight. Laid out approaching the 100m. CHILL OUT MISS – Slow to begin. GABRIELLE – Was declared a late scratching at 7:45am due to no suitable rider available. UNHINCHED – Jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin.
