QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT YEPPOON TURF CLUB Tuesday 10th September 2024 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 4 RAIL – TruePENETROMETER – N/A OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – S Larkins Stewards – H Gillett, S Stehbens, G Wust SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT GENERAL Race 3 – KEFALONIA, which raced and won at Emerald on 06 September 2024, was re-handicapped 1.5kg to carry 60kg. Overweights permitted as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Leniency was extended to trainers having difficulty engaging the services of jockeys to ride at suitable weights by the prescribed time. Due to illness, jockey Justin Huxtable was unable to ride at the meeting and replacement riders were permitted as follows:Race 3 MURRAJONG ROAD (NZ) app Melea Castle (0 claim), Race 5 OUR TURN NOW (NZ) – Michael Murphy, Race 6 LAMENTUM – Ryan Wiggins, Race 7 DESERT MOON – Tasha Chambers.Justin Huxtable was advised that a medical clearance is required prior to resuming riding. Race 1: GET YOUR CAULFIELD CUP TICKETS Maiden Handicap (1300 Metres) The declaration of correct weight was delayed allowing stewards to view the photo finish on behalf of trainer M Stephens, after being satisfied with the judges numbers, correct weight was declared. XARELLO – Began awkwardly and slow to begin. Raced keenly in the middle stages. MACFARLANE (GB) – Jumped inwards at the start bumping QUEENBEEL (NZ). READY TO GROOVE – Began awkwardly and slow into stride. Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. FAIRYBOWER FLYER – Over raced in the early and middle stages. QUEENBEEL (NZ) – Bumped on jumping by MACFARLANE (GB) and slow into stride. WE GIRLS – Jumped inwards at the start. Race 2: GREAT NORTHERN QTIC Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap (1300 Metres) MOET AT MIDNIGHT – Over raced in the early stages and had to be restrained on a number of occasions. FRASER’S RIDGE – Began awkwardly bumping with BETTER THAN WORDS. Leaving the 1100m hung in carrying LITTLE IFFY inwards resulting in MISHANI OPAL, which was trailing, having to be restrained from the heels of that runner, FRASER’S RIDGE continued to race ungenerously for some distance thereafter. Hung in noticeably in the home straight placing jockey M Murphy at some disadvantage in riding the gelding out. Trainer J Manzelmann was advised that a warning would be placed on FRASER’S RIDGE’s record due to its racing manners. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. MISHANI OPAL – Leaving the 1100m had to be restrained to avoid the heels of LITTLE IFFY when that runner was carried in by FRASER’S RIDGE and commenced to over race there after for some distance. BETTER THAN WORDS – Bumped on jumping by FRASER’S RIDGE and hampered shortly thereafter. Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. LITTLE IFFY – Leaving the 1100m carried inwards by FRASER’S RIDGE. Race 3: TAB BM60 Handicap (1800 Metres) MURRAJONG ROAD (NZ) – Apprentice Melea Castle was the approved rider replacement for Justin Huxtable. BROMES – Pulled hard in the early and middle stages. KEFALONIA – Re-handicapped 1.5kg to carry 60kg after winning at Emerald 06 September 2024. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after competing at Emerald on 7 September 2024 and was cleared to start. Raced wide in the middle stages while over racing. LEICA BITA FUN – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. BLUE SUMMER – When questioned in relation to the improved performance in relation to its most recent start trainer J Manzelmann stated that in the geldings most recent start the pace set throughout was not conducive to a constant tempo, which did not suit the gelding. He further added that the gelding had backed up for five runs with seven days or less between those runs leading into its most recent start and 14 days between its most recent start and todays event. Mr Manzelmann also added that the geldings form had been very consistent prior to its last start failure. PATTI WAGGIN – Jumped outwards at the start bumping PERISIAN LADY. Raced wide in the early stages until obtaining a position in the lead near the 1400m. PARISIAN LADY – Began awkwardly bumping PATTI WAGGIN and slow to begin. Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. When questioned in relation to the performance jockey J Stanley stated that after beginning poorly, he got further back than anticipated and the moderate tempo of today’s race proved detrimental to the mares capability of making ground from the rear of the field. Mr Stanley also added that racing second up since early August may have had an effect on the performance however, he was disappointed in the mares run. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Race 4: A DAYS GRAZE CATERING 0 – 60 Handicap (1000 Metres) LAST DITCH EFFORT – Raced keenly in the early stages. Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. HARVESTA – Raced wide throughout. Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. When questioned in relation to the performance jockey C Bayliss stated that after being trapped wide the gelding felt flat throughout and proved to be disappointing, he further added that HARVESTA may benefit races over a further distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. NANO STAR – Began awkwardly and slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages. CINDERELLA MAN – Began awkwardly and slow to begin. DUBIOUS AUTHORITY – Began awkwardly. LAST LAUGH – Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight. Race 5: MELBOURNE CUP DAY AT CALLAGHAN PARK BENCHMARK 65 Handicap (1200 Metres) The start was delayed allowing NINE CARATS to undergo remedial farrier work. PARADE GROUND – Raced wide in the early stages. When queried in relation to the performance trainer R Vale stated that after being trapped wide in the early stages from an awkward barrier the gelding proved disappointing over the concluding stages. He further added that PARADE GROUND was unusually fractious in the preliminary today and that he would be sending the gelding for an immediate spell. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. OUR TURN NOW (NZ) – Michael Murphy was the approved replacement rider for Justin Huxtable. Jockey M Murphy reported that he dropped his whip near the 250m. SANTORINI SUMMER – Began awkwardly. Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. ALEACO – Slow to begin and shifted in shortly after the start. NINE CARATS – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Race 6: WADE HUNT IT Maiden Plate (1100 Metres) The start was delayed when multiple runners proved reluctant to load. FRACTIONAL – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight. Jockey J Stanley reported that his mount raced greenly throughout and would benefit from the addition of blinkers. Jockey J Stanley was reprimanded under AR210(1) for failing to weigh in following the race, when considering penalty stewards were mindful of Mr Stanleys exceptional record and the fact that his mount was unplaced in the event. KOITAKI SUNDAY – Impeded on jumping and slow into stride. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Jockey M Murphy reported that his mount hung out rounding the home turn. MARVIN ROCKET – Briefly became fractious in the preliminary harmlessly dislodging apprentice C Ramsbotham. Shifted out abruptly on jumping impeding KOITAKI SUNDAY and bumping heavily with NEVA BREEZE then in turn impeding CASH PIT. Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. MISHANI TYCOON – Brushed with CASH PIT near the 150m. SELKIRK’S SPIRIT – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. When questioned in relation to the performance Trainer J Wehlow stated that he was surprised with the market expectations of the mare and that it had not worked in a manner that would suggest a forward showing. He further added that he would be looking into the immediate racing future of SELKIRK’S SPIRIT within his stable. CASH PIT – Impeded shortly after the start. Near the 150m shifted in and away from MARVIN ROCKET and brushed with MISHANI TYCOON. LAMENTUM – Ryan Wiggins was the approved replacement rider for Justin Huxtable. NEVA BREEZE – Bumped heavily with MARVIN ROCKET shortly after the start. Raced keenly in the early stages. Race 7: PHIL PEEL JEWELLER Benchmark 55 Handicap (1400 Metres) DESERT MOON – Tasha Chambers was the approved replacement rider for Justin Huxtable. EARLY FUSION – It was noted that the Ms Apel’s saddle had slipped back noticeably in running. KELLERS SHELTER – Tardy to begin. Jockey A Butler advised that after settling well back he was unable to obtain clear racing room until approaching the 200m and his mount then finished the race off well. SHADOW PROJECT – Raced wide throughout. JUST FRANK – Raced wide throughout. DIAMOND SKY – Jumped outwards at the start. Raced wide early. HOLY CROWN – Approaching the 600m shifted outwards briefly inconveniencing MISS SHALAA. Raced wide in the middle stages. Apprentice J Devine was spoken to advisedly in relation to the manner in which she shifted ground approaching the 600m. BOLD ZIP – Slow to begin. LANOVA – Slow to begin. MISS SHALAA – Briefly inconvenienced approaching the 600m when HOLY CROWN shifted outwards. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. MISS RINEHART – Raced keen in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Race 8: WENDY MULRY TRAVEL OPEN Handicap (1400 Metres) The start was delayed to remove a kangaroo from a section of the track after the winning post. The declaration of correct weight was delayed allowing stewards to question all riders if the intrusion of a kangaroo on the racing surface in the home straight had materially affected their chances in the event. After all riders denied that the kangaroo had materially affected their chances, correct weight was declared on the judges numbers. STAMPE – Laid out when under pressure over the concluding stages. Jockey P Hamblin pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(5) for his use of the whip 18 times in total, 4 more than permitted. Mr Hamblin’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence M/N 14/9/24 until M/N 21/9/24. LETMELETGO – Raced wide throughout. KICK ON COMMAND – Began awkwardly and slow to begin. Jockey J Stanley stated that his mount failed to travel and when placed under pressure near the 800m it failed to respond and become very awkward in its action and as a result elected to ease his mount out of the event. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Post-race samples were collected from the gelding for analysis. Trainer C Taylor was advised that KICK ON COMMAND would have to trial to the satisfaction of stewards due to the poor performance. BONDURANT – Raced keenly in the early stages. MOENAVE – Laid inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight. JETSKI – Raced wide throughout. TRICKY BEANS – Raced wide in the early stages.
