Began awkwardly and lost considerable ground. Jockey B. Stewart explained that after being moderately away and travelling in a rearward position the gelding never really travelled throughout the event and when placed under pressure rounding the home turn failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. Jockey Stewart was of the opinion that the gelding may not have backed up from its run the previous week. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings, however the veterinary surgeon noted that the horse is a recognised roarer.
