T Marshall reported that after being slow to begin and losing ground he was reluctant to improve to the outside of SPIRIT ESPRIT approaching the 500m as he was of the opinion that he would be carried extremely wide rounding the home turn and for this reason he elected to follow SPIRIT ESPRIT until entering the home straight.
