The start of the race was delayed when apprentice M. Murphy was dislodged during the preliminary. The horse cantered a short distance before being recaptured in the enclosure. Then underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was cleared to take its place in the field. Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Shifted out abruptly after passing the 450m to secure clear running and as a result became unbalanced. Rider M. Murphy reported the horse raced greenly throughout.

Raced greenly from the 600m after being crossed by another runner, and then continued to race greenly until entering the home straight, at which point the gelding began to weaken. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the off hind leg. Trainer S. Mackinnon was advised that a veterinary clearance must be supplied prior to its next race start.
