Began awkwardly and lost ground. Steadied from the heels of a tiring runner approaching the 400m. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted in the home straight as to why he did not take an available run to the inside near the 200m, apprentice M. Schrapel advised that initially he committed his mount to the outside and by the time he was able to change course to the inside the run was closing and he did not feel it was safe to pressure his mount to improve into that position. Stewards noted the explanation.

Stewards accepted trainer M. Costa’s explanation for the late declaration of rider for the horse. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, apprentice M. McGillivray stated that the mare travelled well until near the 600m, however when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding and, in his opinion, he felt something was amiss with the mare’s action. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
