Racing Queensland has noted the arrest of three harness racing participants by detectives from the Queensland Police Racing Crime Squad, assisted by the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission.
Racing Queensland CEO Dr Eliot Forbes said he supports the actions of QRIC in cleaning up the harness racing code for the benefit of all the honest, hard-working harness racing participants and those who follow the code.
“There is no place for corruption in racing. The integrity of racing is critical to its continued success and support from wagering customers and participants.”
“Confidence in harness racing must be restored. Some of those charged are leading participants in Queensland and many people look up to them. I am disappointed that the code has suffered.”
There are close to 3100 people directly involved in harness racing in Queensland generating $141.8 million for the Queensland economy. More than 800 owners and 275 trainers support the 2200 harness races each year across the state.
