DESPITE Saturday night’s race being somewhat of a late option, Regulus is ready to shine at Albion Park.
Being primed for the Redcliffe Sales Series, Regulus will contest the Qbred Breeders’ Classic for New South Wales horseman Ricky Alchin en route to a possible Group One appearance.
Heats of the Sales Series are set to be staged at Redcliffe on May 23, with the $100,450 Final scheduled for June 1.
“I’ve sent him up for the Redcliffe series and saw this race was one and thought it was a good lead up,” Alchin said. “The run will definitely top him off before the heats.
“I’ll be staying in Menangle to drive Tough Monarch in The Hammerhead, but will head to Queensland next week with a few horses.”
To be driven by Darren McCall, Regulus has drawn well in barrier two, with Alchin stating the two-year-old is ready to “star”.
“He showed what he can do with his win at Menangle in 1:55.6 and I expect him to go very well,” Alchin said. “I trialled him at Bankstown last week and he won that easily.
“It was just a nice, solid trial, but it tightened him up and he has trained on well since.”
As for Tough Monarch, he has drawn to lead throughout from the pole.
The squaregaiter has won two of his last three starts, including the Shepparton Trotters’ Cup a fortnight ago.
“I’m very happy with him and expect him to be very hard to beat from that draw over a mile,” Alchin said.
