An early Christmas gift for racing fans will be unwrapped on December 1 when the Kilcoy Race Club hosts its dual-code race day featuring Christmas Cups for both gallopers and pacers.
The club has become the home of dual-code meets in recent times and an important place for the conduct of the popular ‘mini-trots’, which will again be one of the highlights.
On-track, the action for the pacers will be headlined by the Tattersall’s Racing Club Christmas Cup Pace MS (1820m), the Kilcoy Global Foods Xmas Gift and the Somerset Regional Council Seasons Greetings Pace.
The thoroughbreds will then contest the Tattersall’s Racing Club Kilcoy Christmas Cup (1900m), The $30,000 Great Northern Cannonball Series Final and the Butler McDermott Lawyers Gift (1500m).
President Con Searle said the day had something for every type of racegoer.
“The club’s moniker ‘Moonee Valley of the North’ extends beyond the tight turning circuit that provides both exciting and competitive racing,” Mr Searle said.
“Both punters and fashionistas both have the chance to take home $1000 thanks to our Fashions On the Field and ‘Pick The Card’ competitions, bringing the competition and excitement of a big city race day to the picturesque surroundings of the Somerset region.”
Country hospitality will also be on display with cakes, scones and refreshments on offer in the dining room.
“There’ll also be a plentiful supply of the now-famous Kilcoy Steak Sandwiches,” Mr Searle said.
Trackside pavilion bookings are available for $130p.p., which includes the price of admission, a premium beverage package (12-4pm), race book, spit-roast lunch, reserved table and seating.
For a more affordable option outside marquees are available for $50 per-person.
Bookings should be made by phoning Jenny Searle on 0417 607 969.
“If you have never visited, or are a regular racegoer, come along and enjoy the picturesque surrounds, great country racing, pacing, mini-trots and Kilcoy country hospitality,” Mr Searle said.
