Racing Queensland and the Brisbane Greyhound Racing Club have raised more than $9000 for the Mark Hughes Foundation through the TAB Origin Greyhound Series.
Both parties recently made a joint $5300 donation to the charity to assist in its fight against brain cancer, following the 2019 TAB Origin Greyhound Series in June.
It comes on top of the $3885 donation made to the Foundation following the inaugural series in 2018.
This year’s series again featured the ‘Blue Dog For Brain Cancer’ initiative, which saw RQ and Brisgreys commit $1000 each time the Number 4 greyhound won any race on the night.
Although the Number 4 greyhound didn’t manage to salute the judge, the decision was made to donate $5000 to the cause.
“The Queensland greyhound racing industry has once more proven its willingness to lend a helping hand to those doing it tough,” RQ Chief Operating Officer Adam Wallish said.
“Although no ‘Blue Dog’ saluted on the night, RQ and Brisgreys were pleased to assist the foundation as it raises awareness and supports brain cancer patients.”
Brisgreys CEO Luke Gatehouse said more than $300 was raised through the sale of specially-marked Mark Hughes Foundation beanies on the night.
“The TAB Origin Greyhound Series provides an ideal opportunity for our industry to help others who are less fortunate. Almost everybody knows someone that has been touched by brain cancer, which is why we are determined to help the Mark Hughes Foundation continue its quest to defeat it,” Mr Gatehouse said.
The TAB Origin Greyhound Series saw the best dogs from New South Wales and Queensland go head-to-head in one night of action in Brisbane.
Despite going down in the inaugural series, the Blues took out the 2019 edition (2-1) in front of a vocal Albion Park crowd.
