The Brisbane Racing Club hosts Queensland metropolitan racing at Doomben today.

RACE 1 - 11:43AM LEXUS QTIS TWO-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1110M

“She’s really good she put her hand up as one of our better two-year-old’s from the word go.”

“We had o be patient with her she wasn’t quite furnished before Christmas, but everything we’ve asked her to do she’s done it well.”

“Her trial wasn’t even up to what she was capable of we knew she’d improve today and lovely to see her run away with it the way she did.”

“With the carnival back on there will definitely be races there for her, I’d have no hesitation getting her up over 1400 either her breeding says she should handle it easily.”

“When Jake (Bayliss) came out, he thought another horse might want to lead, but I said to him she’s best out front and do what you can to get her there and she gave a good kick.”

“I’ve got quite an opinion of this girl she’s come up to us from down South and I’ve been really impressed by everything I’ve seen.”

“She was beaten by a handy one on debut, we thought she’d take improvement she did, and I even think she’ll tighten up a bit more having carried a bit of weight when she arrived.”

“It was good to see her get out in front and we got to really see what she was made of, I was just as impressed with the way she finished off a strong speed.”

RACE 3. DARRYL GOLLAN TRIBUTE 2YO QTIS HANDICAP 1200 METRES.

“She’s got a good little motor, that was a crazy race though I’ll have a word to young Adin (Thompson) with Dusty Tycoon thirty-four seconds first six hundred thirty-six for the six hundred home it was never going to suit her.”

“I think Dusty was in season she was showing me some signs pre-race normally she;s very calm.”

“All credit to Minjee she’s a beautiful racehorse and Steph gave her a perfect trip out and back and timed her run.”

“Congratulations to all involved getting the carnival back on and I’d love to see her over a 1400 metre sprint somewhere.”

RACE 4. ROKU GIN BECHMARK 78 HANDICAP 1630 METRES

“Luke gets on really well with her she had 63 kilos at the Gold Coast last time which was a big ask when she tends to struggle beyond the mile.”

“Back to 1500 to a mile is probably her ideal trip which she found today and as she normally does ran it out really strong.”

“I’ve got no problem keeping them up as long as they’re still keen to go, she’s been fresh at home and keeps running in the money we’ll put her away when she stops going good.”

“she’ll be back in a fortnight hopefully in a similar race if the handicappers are nice to me.”

“He hasn’t got enough speed to lead, it would be good to get to the front but he doesn’t have that early toe.”

“Corey (Bayliss) gave him a great ride a few pairs back one off the fence giving him every chance when the whips were cracking.”

‘He does his best work when he’s out wide in the straight no-one around him and he came home great guns today.”

“he’s a true stayer he could run 3200 metres if you asked him to, because he’s very fit we’ll probably back him up next week over the 2200 metres.”

R6. XXXX DRY QTIS 3YO HANDICAP 1200 METRES

Race Review 

Chris Munce's three-year-old gelding Stampe put another win to his name skipping away from the field in the QTIS 1200 metre Handicap after a bold front running Justin Huxtable ride.

The horse bounced well from gate ten and after having a look with just one other horse inside him Huxtable soon rolled to the front and set up shop on Stampe.

Able to pinch a cheap middle sectional the gelding gave a strong kick at the top of the lane opening up by two lengths on the fancied Ballistic By, eventually holding a margin over Wapiti for Gary Duncan in second.

The Munce galloper had only been out of the placings once this prep and his form last three times out in the placings behind Command'N'Conquer and The Odyssey read well for this race.

The Doomben win adds to his Eagle Farm triumph four starts back as the horse looks to be really coming into his own.

TAB CLASS 6 PLATE 1350 METRES

1st - Shalwa - Tony Gollan - Adin Thompson

2nd - Profit - Chris Anderson - Jimmy Orman

3rd - Red Chase - Desleigh Forster - Taylor Marshall

Race Review

Shalwa has clung on to win the Class 6 Plate over the 1350 metres at Doomben from a fast finishing Profit, giving Tony Gollan a training double and the mare her third win out of her last four.

Well in the market after her good recent form Shalwa not only faced a vast class jump but also was trying to win at Doomben for the first time in her career.

Getting in at 56.5 kilos with apprentice Adin Thompson on her back the Gollan camp didn't mess with winning tactics letting the mare roll along a couple of lengths clear in front for most of the trip.

Classy three-year-old Profit for Chris Anderson looked full of running at the two hundred and ready to finish the better, but the mare dug deep over the last furlong holding on by a long neck.

The horse has been up since November but spacing of runs have made her rock hard fit for front running wins like today's.

RACE 8. RACECOURSE VILLAGE OPEN HANDICAP 1200 METRES

"I only got him a fortnight ago a big thanks to Mark Currie who sent him down to me before the zoning restrictions were put in place."

"I trialled him last week down and Deagon and he went ok, without being outstanding, him and the mare River Racer went about the same."

"I was hoping he'd race a little better and he certainly did that today she couldn't hold a candle to him and that was a really tough strong on speed win."

"We can only hope for natural improvement as he settles into his new surrounds, but that's a great start against an open class field."

"The horse came to us in immaculate order, trialled really well behind Xanthus who's gone on and won since and got out of a tricky spot today to make it two from two for the camp."

"His one weakness if he can wander a bit mentally in his races, he slightly missed the kick Robbie (Fradd) had to wake him up and did a great job getting him to the outside where he let down lovely."

"We saw at his last start when he gets some space in the straight that's when the ears prick, he's going places this horse he's made it look pretty easy so far."
