Sarah Johnson has had a love for Greyhound racing since she can remember and years later nothing has changed.
After moving down from Cairns 10 years ago, she started to spend more time with her father’s cousin, famed trainer Tony Brett.
“I’ve always been drawn to it and it always felt like my happy place,” Sarah said.
“I love being able to see them from a puppy all the way through their racing career and then to their life after racing.
"The dogs are just so amazing, they have the best natures and they love to run so much.
"You can see it when they’re in the big paddocks running on their own and you can see how excited they are when they get to go to the track.”
These days you can find Sarah at home surrounded by the animals she loves - she is passionate about the process, and caring for them is just a way of life.
During COVID-19 Sarah has worked diligently as a nurses' aid for the Red Cross, taking life saving blood donations.
After she finishes work late at night - you'll find her at the tracks helping out with the dogs.
“I couldn’t even tell you how many times I’ve raced to the track after work to handle a dog for Tony or gone home to pick up a dog in the afternoon and then come back to Ipswich or Albion Park just in time for kenneling," she said.
"I love being a part of it, I love being able to help as much as I can and I love being able to give the dogs a big hug after their run.”
