Racing Queensland is among the organisations paying tribute to legendary figure, Bob Ingham AO.

Having passed away yesterday at the age of 88, Ingham was a giant of Australian racing, building one of the nation’s largest racing and breeding empires with his brother before selling Woodlands Stud to Darley in 2008.

Over the journey, Bob and Jack Ingham formed a powerhouse operation, with their long-term Brisbane stable, Tenor Lodge playing a key role in their success.

With John Hawkes at the helm of Tenor Lodge, which was named after their 1994 Queensland Derby winner, the Inghams enjoyed incredible success and were a constant force during the Winter Carnivals, as they were across the nation.

The Inghams distinct cerise colours were regularly seen on racetracks across Australia including champions such as Lonhro and Octagonal.

“It’s a sad day for the Australian racing industry,” RQ CEO Brendan Parnell said.

“Bob, and his late brother Jack, have been tremendous contributors the racing industry, and many good horses emerged from their Queensland operations over the years.

“Our condolences are extended to Lyn, Debbie, Robby and John, and the entire Ingham family.”

Bob Ingham had 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Due to COVID-19, the funeral service will be by invitation only and in lieu of flowers, people can make a tax-deductible donation in Bob’s memory to the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research at www.inghaminstitute.org.au.
