Rob Jacobsen was thrilled when he picked up Crazy Cool from the tried and tested Barcia Bale/Crazy Sexy bloodlines, content that he’d have a serious sprinter on his hands coming from great stock.
The trainer was chuffed with her work at home and decided to give her a crack over the 520 metres, and now after only just three starts at the distance, she lines up second favourite for tonight’s Listed Rising Stars.
The bitch flew the lids in the heats, making the most of her rails draw and although caught in the shadows on the post, she stamped herself as a future star over the traditional sprint trip.
“It was a huge effort to lead as long as she did, she hadn’t had a run or a trial in almost a month and was relying on paddock and straight work,” Jacobsen said.
“If it were any bitch other than Frieda Las Vegas chasing her, I think she would have held on.
“She’s really surprised me, when we started out with her we thought she was going to be a really good short course dog, but we gave her a go over the 520 in her Novice and she went 29.86 and her time in last week’s heats (29.75) has proved that was no fluke.
“I thought she was probably a little out of her depth in the heats given she’d only had two starts over the distance, but I’m a bit believer in peaking for the final and I thought if she could get through she could run a big race the next week.”
Luck’s a fortune for Jacobsen and Crazy Cool coming up with the red rug again for the Final, and the trainer firmly believes if she leads, she can win and go on to bigger and better things.
