We’re looking forward to a spectacular day on Sunday January 31 at Albion Park, where an astonishing line-up of 52 lots (48 pacers and 4 trotters) has been confirmed by APG’S loyal and insightful Queensland breeders.
The release of both the online catalogue and the printed “Bible for Success” (as it’s known), showcases the finest quality yearlings Queensland has to offer, and this selection should excite those looking to invest in the world of harness racing.
The opportunities for investors in harness racing right now has never been better than in Queensland.
This is the sale where buyers get additional advantages in securing APG yearlings with massive upside.
The QBRED Incentive Scheme continues to reward participants who own QBRED-eligible horses in Queensland.
This is achieved through the distribution of over $3 million in QBRED bonuses and feature race stakes, with prospective breeders and owners able to share in these benefits.
The QBRED Incentive scheme sees the first-win bonus set at $12,000 at any age (regardless of how many interstate wins they may have had), as well as a further $7,500 cash bonus for their first QLD win in a subsequent season. This is on top of APG Brisbane’s $350,000 in local prize money.
With 19 pacing colts and 29 pacing fillies on offer to compete for the massive $350,00 in local prize money, you can see why APG Brisbane has the reputation of the sale with the biggest bang for your buck.
The next two stallions we would like to highlight are American Ideal and Art Major.
It’s with pleasure we can share a little insight into the thinking behind these very exciting racing prospects.
- Lot 18 – American Ideal – Santanna Jewel – Santanna Blue Chip – Great Vintage $1,503,093 (Artsplace): The successes and incredible top performers American Ideal has had from the influence of broodmare sires from the Adios line (through Abercrombie) is almost inconceivable. He’s Watching (Real Desire) and Soho Tribeca (an extension of the Abercrombie through Art Major) are both bred this way. This very stylish colt is a must see on sales day.
- Lot 32 – American Ideal – Caracas – Life Sign – Thereisapaceforus $426,979: The same applies here as above as Life Sign is a son of Abercrombie. Pelosi, the Group 1 star of the 2019 Australian Pacing Gold Final - 2YO Fillies at Albion Park, also carries the distinction of being an American Ideal out of a Life Sign mare. The dam of this lot is a full sister of the very smart horse Crombie that won $786,845. It’s hard to imagine the people who invest the time to view this lot wouldn’t get excited by her outstanding prospects.
- Lot 51 – American Ideal – Lis Tureen – Lis Mara – American Jewel $1,834,823 (CamLuck): It’s also extraordinary how well American Ideal has also done with Meadow Skipper line broodmare sires and particularly those through Cam Fella. Four of his top eight, (which includes American Jewel) are bred this way, the other three are:
- Heston Blue Chip $1,779,773
- Sunfire Blue Chip $1,635,858
- American History $1,223,297
American Ideal is working his way towards having 20% of his offspring of racing age winning north of $100,000 – something rarely seen in the sport.
While the above focuses on the sire American Ideal, Lot 51’s dam Lis Tureen and had a remarkable run of 15 wins from16 starts and the non-win was a margin of HFHD.
Expectations are extremely high for the future of this very special filly.
Most followers of harness racing would understand the massive impact Art Major has had on the sport both here and in the Northern Hemisphere, and once again, the insightful APG Brisbane breeders have excelled with their choices of broodmare sires for Art Major.
All six lots have clear and outstanding evidence that these have the potential to win some very serious race in the future.
- Lot 2 - Art Major – Oh So Hippe – Life Sign – Major Marcus $301,855: Also of note is that many people hold the view that Life Sign and Albert Albert have the same sire profile and this cross has been extremely successful around the world. Horses like Artimittateslife winner of $997,901 are bred this way. In North America this was considered as an elite Golden Cross with 14 offspring bred this way for a massive $179,763 average earnings for the 11 starters.
- Lot 5 – Art Major – Pacific Jaccka – Live Or Die – Our Major Mark $702,180: It’s important to remember that the star Victorian horse Ride High that’s won 16 races for his 18 starts and gone the 1:49.0 is also bred on this cross. Michael Taylor the breeder of this lot is renowned for the effort and research he invests into each of his breedings. He is very optimistic about the racing future of this very special filly. As Michael would say, “a must view lot for those chasing on-track success.”
- Lot 29 – Art Major – Bobbies Girl – Real Desire – I’m The Real Major $208,736: This of course is the same very successful U301 family, that the special mare Amazing Dreams $839,296 comes from.
- Lot 33 – Art Major – Colada Belle – Presidential Ball – JK Endofanera $2,140,101: With 20% of horses of racing age winning more $100,000 on this cross, it’s hard to imagine this colt getting a moment spare come sales morning. The dam Colada Belle just happens to be the sister of Australasia’s greatest ever earner, Blacks a Fake, winner of $4,575,438.
- Lot 35 – Art Major – Dontdrinkthendrive – In The Pocket – Our Sky Major $825,538: Prepared by Burwood Stud, this filly is already off to a great start in life. Add that to the wonderful success rate Art Major has had with In The Pocket mares, and this filly is already looking a winner. The full sibling Shezza GNP has won already $258,199.
- Lot 46 – Art Major – Jennas Dancer – Jennas Beach Boy – Doctor Butch $1,575,382: With four of Art Major’s top 15 progeny coming from Jennas Beach Boy mares, the APG breeders may have hit the perfect note here. It’s so exciting to see fillies of this level and class available in the north.
