RACE TWO
A tricky race to dissect with a few of these searching for some form. On paper COPPICE (4) has seemingly found his race on a few occasions of late but that has not transpired on the track. Using the passing lane to grab the bronze last start behind BONDI SHAKE, he has placed in 3 of his past 4 and might just be able to start the new season in style. BEEF CITY STARZZZ (3) was warming up to a victory after 3 successive placings at Redcliff and Marburg. That was franked when he landed a win on the grass at Kilcoy last start after easing from a wide gate before powering home over the top to score. Positioning cheaply will be key to his chances. MAJOR TRALEE (6) has returned from a long break in superb style winning both starts. After claiming victory on the grass at Kilcoy, she backed it up with a smart win here on Friday. The gate stings but with added fitness she cannot be dismissed. BLUE SHARD (9) is a consistent performer and has been runner-up at his past 3 attempts. Best of the rest after a tough trip behind TALENT TO SPARE last start, he can be chiming in again here.
SELECTIONS: COPPICE (4), BEEF CITY STARZZZ (3), MAJOR TRALEE (6), BLUE SHARD (9) SUGGESTED BET: COPPICE (4) to win
RACE THREE NIMAH FRANCO (3) was a winner here 5 stars back over the mile when sent to the front and fighting them all off to score a smart win. In the 4 starts since that victory, she has been in the firing line, beaten a neck on 2 occasions and then the latest when only 2m in arrears of PELOSI. Finding the front and with limited pressure, she can see it out. COPPERFIELD (4) returned from a spell in the Redcliffe Guineas and from inside the 2nd line secured the easy trip and was solid to the line in some smart closing sectionals when within 1.5m of the winner. Taking benefit from the run, he has a good record here at The Creek and can look to issue a challenge. ARTFUL MAID (5) has returned from a break in nice order, hitting the board on all 3 occasions. After a 1st up win on the grass at Warwick, she has been within 3m from 2nd line gates at her past 2. With even luck she can feature again. FIRE AND ICE (1) was chasing from back in the pack to grab the silver behind HOT ROD HEAVEN at Redcliffe 2 starts back and landed another 2nd again on Thursday. From this gate he is in the mix.
SELECTIONS: NIMAH FRANCO (3), COPPERFIELD (4), ARTFUL MAID (5), FIRE AND ICE (1) SUGGESTED BET: NIMAH FRANCO (3) to win
RACE FOUR NEWPORT DREAMZ (5) eased from gate 7 last start and after 400m the field was stretched out and he was about 40m off the leader after a sub 27 opening split in front. Chasing hard from a long way back, he was able to grab the silver. He has been a little enigmatic through his career, losing his way and facing injury, but he might be ready to turn the corner and is worth a chance here. THATS BETTOR (1) returned in fine fettle when 1st up from 8 months off the scene was able to swoop over the top of them to claim a smart win in a new career best winning rate. Eased from gate 5 last start, she was winding up but could not reel in the winner when claiming the silver. The gate is a huge plus, and she can snipe. FROST EN ICE (3) just got too far back last start when well-supported and found it too difficult to eat into the margin. A smart winner the start prior, she can bounce back with an improved gate here. SOHO TSUNAMI (6) had a good dip for the lead last start when repelled and forced to roll the sleeves thereafter. In for the fight when 3m in arrears, he has been kept fresh and can join in here.
SELECTIONS: NEWPORT DREAMZ (5), THATS BETTOR (1), FROST EN ICE (3), SOHO TSUNAMI (6) SUGGESTED BET: NEWPORT DREAMZ (5) each-way
RACE FIVE MORESCO (4) featured in a barn switch and joined the astute Stephen Cini team and will resume from a spell in this event. Opening the pipes with a smart preparatory trial when within 5m of some experienced campaigners, she has early speed to call on and from the gate can look to kick-off her preparation in style. FLAME LADY (6) has developed a consistent record here at The Creek, missing the board just once in 8 outings. A winner here 2 starts back when sent to the breeze from the 2nd line and proving too strong, she was game again when first over last start when within 1.5m of the winner. She can throw it down again. COULDNTELLYA (10) settled in the pocket trail over the mile from gate 1 at her past 2 starts in succession and has finished in 4th position on both occasions. Only a neck away when charging home wide out here 3 starts back, a repeat of that can put her on the podium. OUR FRIEND (12) was a winner here 5 starts back at the mile when sent to the breeze and hanging on for a narrow victory. Not much has really gone his way in the 4 starts since and despite the tough gate, he can bob-up here, and it would be no surprise.
SELECTIONS: MORESCO (4), FLAME LADY (6), COULDNTELLYA (10), OUR FRIEND (12) SUGGESTED BET:
RACE SIX THATS HOW WEROLL (8) was down the line last start behind LETS KATCHMEIFUCAN in a prelude of the Band 5 Series, ultimately missing the final. Finishing over the top to claim victory at the mile the start prior, he looks set to get the easy trip here and effective when saved for the closing shot will be ready to pull the trigger. RIVERLEIGH ROCKET (1) had been trying to win a qualifier for a long time and finally was able to deliver the victory when finishing over the top of them to score over his less preferred 2138m trip. Beaten by tough gates at his next 2 outings, he struck a strong line-up last start. From the gate at the mile here he will be gripping on. CLASSIE AMERICAN (3) resumes from a freshen and the Veterans conditions provided here look ideal. A passing lane winner 3 starts back, he attacked the line strongly last start behind JOHNNY WHITE and if his condition holds, will give this a shake. INVINCIBLE LOXTON (6) did not have much go his way 2 starts back when probing for some open space that did not arrive when only 5m from the winner. Chiming in late on Saturday night, he will not be too far away. SELECTIONS: THATS HOW WEROLL (8), RIVERLEIGH ROCKET (1), CLASSIE AMERICAN (3), INVINCIBLE LOXTON (6) SUGGESTED BET:
RACE SEVEN
CHANTREY (4) loves to carve it out in front and at his past 5 starts he has been forced to start from the 2nd line which really messes with his mojo. The 2 starts prior to the stretch of 2nd line barriers, he was setting the speed in front for a strong win at this trip and a narrow 2nd at the mile in slick time. He will be free-wheeling and providing the target. SABRAGE (3) set the speed last start from gate 5 after crossing and then was in front deep into the stretch, only to be nabbed right on the wire. Only beaten a half-neck, it followed a strong run from gate 7 when beaten a neck. He can get forward early and opting for a trail can take the closing shot. CASINO TOMMY (8) backs up from a stronger race on Friday where he was strong to the line. Back to claiming grade here suits but the gate does not, and he will likely be looking to work off the poles at some stage. With a seamless passage he can chime in. HARD TO HEAR (5) held the 1x1 trail last start over the 2138m trip and chased home soundly when 9m from the winner FEEL THE REIGN. Not far away his previous 2, he can be working home late again here.
SELECTIONS: CHANTREY (4), SABRAGE (3), CASINO TOMMY (8), HARD TO HEAR (5) SUGGESTED BET: CHANTREY (4) to win
RACE EIGHT CLINTAL DO (9) started favourite in the Redcliffe Christmas Cup last start from a 2nd line gate and was wide off the track when chasing hard behind the winner FRANCO LANDRY. Facing a task after being buried in the Blacks A Fake the start prior, he can be steaming in from the boundary to deliver a victory. OUR MAJOR DAY (8) was sent forward at Redcliffe last start and after working hard over the 2280m was left with limited supplies in the stretch, fading out under the pressure. Luckless here 2 starts back when shooting for a hat-trick of victories, he can get an economical trip and be ready to strike. ROCKNROLL CLASSIC (1) was doing plenty of work in the run last start over the mile and despite the tough trip was still giving on the line when 2m in arrears of the swooping winner. From the gate he will be in for the fight. CARDLESFROMHEAVEN (5) has landed inside the 2nd line at his past 4 starts in succession and been buried in transit on each occasion. Back to the front line can see him make some of his own luck to find the podium.
SELECTIONS: CLINTAL DO (9), OUR MAJOR DAY (8), ROCKNROLL CLASSIC (1), CARDLESFROMHEAVEN (5) SUGGESTED BET: CLINTAL DO (9) to win
