Townsville Turf Club – Friday March 19 – Transferred to Cairns Jockey Club

Racing Queensland confirms that the Townsville Turf Club race meeting on Friday March 19 has been transferred and will now be a Cairns Jockey Club race meeting at Cannon Park.

The transfer has been deemed necessary to facilitate an opportunity to conduct some remedial work on the racing surface at Cluden Park.

As a consequence of the transfer, it has been necessary to the distances of some of the races in the program:

• Benchmark 70 Handicap - was 1200m, is now 1250m;
• Ratings Band 0-55 Handicap - was 1200m, is now 1250m;
• Class 1 Handicap – was 1000m, is now 950m;
• Maiden Handicap – was 1000m, is now 950m;
• Three-Year-Old Handicap – was 1000m, is now 950m; and
• Two-Year-Old Handicap – was 1200m, is now 1250m.

Commensurate with the venue change, the apprentice claim category applicable to the race meeting has been amended from ‘Provincial’ to ‘Country’.

The remainder of the race meeting program remains as has been previously published, however the nomination deadline for all races at the meeting has been extended to 9am, Tuesday March 16.
