RACE TWO

Hoping this front-line will generate pressure because that will bring CARDLESFROMHEAVEN (9) right into it, recent form is excellent backed-up by great sectionals and appeared luckless at a key point last week in the FFA event. Will be charging hard late.

WILL THE WIZARD (6) has a perfect opportunity to stamp himself as the best local hope for next month’s feature, the Gr.1 Rising Sun on July 10. Multiple feature race winner this track including last start Triad victory in stunning time. Potentially awkward draw but oozes class and possesses high speed.

MISTERFREZZE (10) was disappointing on face value last start when run down after leading. His win three starts ago was excellent and should be hitting the line hard again here.

UNCLE JORD (7) is a fascinating runner here, possesses great record at this track and recent form is extraordinarily strong including last start at Melton against in-form Sonny Weaver. With any luck, should figure in the finish despite poor draw.

SELECTIONS: CARDLESFROMHEAVEN (9), WILL THE WIZARD (6), MISTERFREEZE (10), UNCLE JORD (7).

SUGGESTED BET: CARDLESFROMHEAVEN (9) each way.

RACE THREE

Visiting New South Wales horseman Dean Cernovskis gets a great opportunity to open his Queensland account with talented pacer SCOOB OPERATOR (10). Resuming last week since January, he caught the eye in the FFA event off a bad gate and recorded solid sectionals against Fame Assured. Drops in grade and strips fitter, he can easily offset this second-line draw and record his third Albion Park triumph.

JUMPING JACK JIMMY (3) has been excellent since arriving from Bathurst for trainer Mark Rees, his hard running no-nonsense style has suited the local style. Impressive victory last week at 1660m in 1:54.3 but this is slightly harder but is already proved here at 2138m. Tough to beat again.

OUR BONDI BEACH (2) doesn’t have blazing lights and sirens against his name or numerical form but he’s going much better than it reads including his effort last week when fourth when leaving the pegs position at a crucial stage. Drawn to be a threat here.

CLASSIE AMERICAN (1) hasn’t won for a long time, and he’s had plenty of chance since his latest victory last October. Lands a great gate and following the pegs isn’t a bad option here so include in multiples options.

SELECTIONS: SCOOB OPERATOR (10), JUMPING JACK JIMMY (3), OUR BONDI BEACH (2), CLASSIE AMERICAN (1).

SUGGESTED BET: SCOOB OPERATOR (10) to win.

RACE FOUR

Heat 6 of the 2021 BOTRA QLD Young Drivers Championship and the best way to play this race is by sticking with the class performer of the field in BOMBADIER JUJON (4) with Brendan Barnes securing the drive. Highly consistent type who raced well last week against the flying Ball Of Art in 1:52.6 while scoring at this track and trip two starts ago defeating the in-form Jumping Jack Jimmy. Will look the winner at some stage of the home straight.

PETES SAID SO (3) may have the speed to lead this field and if he does, will take plenty of catching, hasn’t had much luck in three local starts during his northern campaign. Proven AP winner and this looks a little easier than last week. Rates highly.

BAILEYS KNIGHT (9) is a stablemate of Petes Said So and is also enjoying his time in the Queensland sunshine with a victory and placing in three starts to date. His win three starts ago at this track and trip was impressive, with a genuine tempo he will be making a hard finishing run late. Can’t be ignored.

MOREAU DRIVE (6) was well fancied first-up when a close-up third behind Commodore Jujon in 1:53.4. Will strip fitter and placed in four of five starts at this track so has claims again.

SELECTIONS: BOMBADIER JUJON (4), PETES SAID SO (3), BAILEYS KNIGHT (9), MOREAU DRIVE (6).

SUGGESTED BET: Box Quinella 3, 4 & 9

RACE FIVE

High quality event for the mares with many chasing a spot in the upcoming Gr.1 Golden Girl next month. Trainer Chantal Turpin provides key runners SAUCY DREAMS (3) and BETTTERTHANDIAMONDS (4), both are classy types who can carve out blistering time at this distance range. SAUCY DREAMS (3) gets the nod owing to barrier advantage couple with the fact she’s the fastest mare in this race courtesy of her sensational 1:51.4 clocking here three starts ago. Forced to do plenty of work last start so prepare to forgive.

BETTERTHANDIAMONDS (4) is chasing six straight victories, her two efforts back from a forced break have been sublime which includes a first-up victory in 4yo Mares Triad at 2138m followed by a slick 1:54.2 1660m here last start. This is another big mountain to climb but this mare is flying.

WITH THE BAND (8) got pipped right on the line here last week behind classy performer Scarlet Babe in 1:53.7. Obviously needs luck from this draw but a genuine speed is guaranteed and should be hitting the line hard.

ALE ALE KAI (1) could secure a soft trip against the pegs in what’s likely to be a fast run race. Early pressure is expected but can be included in exotic combinations.

SELECTIONS: SAUCY DREAMS (3), BETTERTHANDIAMONS (4), WITH THE BAND (8), ALE ALE KAI (1)

SUGGESTED BET: SAUCY DREAMS (3) to win.

RACE SIX

The Flashing Red, an event named after dual New Zealand Cup winner provides the first of many open class features over the next two months in the Sunshine State. The key runner without doubt is SPANKEM (15), twice a runner-up in the New Zealand Cup while being a Miracle Mile champion previously. Now in the care of Darren Weeks, this amazing stayer carries the best credentials and was fitted for his maiden Brisbane start with an easy Albion Park trial victory last week. The 20m handicap appeals while biggest threat could be traffic issues with the capacity sized field.

TURN IT UP (14) faces his moment of truth. Failed first-up following an unsuccessful Sydney campaign earlier this year and was a recent late scratching here recently so plenty of questions need to be answered with the winter carnival fast approaching. Proven Auckland Cup winner (3200m Stand) and many are hoping he can easily find his swagger and rhythm again.

WRANGLER (13) is yet to miss the board in five local starts to date. Brave in defeat last week when third behind Fame Assured after doing plenty of work. Placed in two of his three stand start races and has claims again.

KENSINGTON BILL (2) has built up an impressive Albion Park record since arriving from New Zealand. Set for this event and scored impressively first-up under these conditions recently, toughest test to date but should be included in multi plays.

SELECTIONS: SPANKEM (15), TURN IT UP (14), WRANGLER (13), KENSINGTON BILL (2).

SUGGESTED BET: SPANKEM (15) to win.

RACE SEVEN

The final heat of the 2021 QLD Young Drivers Championship and this race could be over very quickly. High quality performer CRUNCH TIME (4) is proven at this track and trip in 1:51.1 and returns north after competing in several features recently including the Chariots of Fire at Menangle. Obviously here for the winter carnival and should make light work of this opposition, should lead all the way.

The ideally drawn BITCOIN (1) is likely to be the recipient of a perfect trail here following CRUNCH TIME (4) and looked good winning here last week in career best time of 1:53.7. Can easily finish top three following the pegs home.

ADAM CROCKER (9) is unbeaten in Queensland with victories in the Australian Pacing Gold Consolation Final followed by his triumph in the Redcliffe Trot Rods when leading both times. Will be seen in a vastly differently role from this draw so could prove interesting.

FEAR CRUISIN (8) is still an Albion Park maiden but could fill a minor place by following the pegs home. Won’t have to come wide and could sneak a place as a result.

SELECTIONS: CRUNCH TIME (4), BITCOIN (1), ADAM CROCKER (9), FEAR CRUISIN (8).

SUGGESTED BET: CRUNCH TIME (4) to win.

RACE EIGHT

Sydney trainer Rickie Alchin can go back-to-back with Crunch Time and now speedy type BLACK HAWK JOE (2) looking to dominate. Possesses a great record at this track with three wins from six starts and returns boasting solid recent form including last start second (as favourite) behind Kash Us Back at Menangle in Regional State Championship Consolation. Has recorded times of 1:53.0 and 1:53.2 in winning here at 1660m. Can take this all the way.

HAZELNUTS (4) is having his first local start and carries handy form down south including last start when fifth behind Soho Sinatra in 1:58.1 at Newcastle. If there is any frailties with BLACK HAWK JOE (2), this pacer could easily come out on top. Don’t treat lightly.

LIFEOFBRIAN (1) should land perfect run from inside gate, wasn’t far away last week behind Jumping Jack Jimmy and that form looks like holding up. Will get good trip and looms as a genuine hope.

SIMON (8) heads north from Adelaide and boasts solid credentials and joins an astute stable. Looked sharp in recent trial at this track against Spankem in 1:55.5 and will be taking all the shortcuts from this draw. Watch betting?

SELECTIONS: BLACK HAWK JOE (2), HAZELNUTS (4), LIFEOFBRIAN (1), SIMON (8).

SUGGESTED BET: BLACK HAWK JOE (2) to win.

vRACE NINE

Start is crucial here! GODOFTHUNDER (1) is a reliable beginner and goes best when able to lead in his races but he will cop early pressure from the speedy beginner JANSSON (4). If GODOFTHUNDER (1) is able to dictate, he’ll prove hard to beat following good efforts at the 2647m at his past two starts. He’s capable of taking this race and this distance range is an advantage.

CLAUDYS PRINCE (5) has been a runner-up in all three local starts to date. Beaten favourite last week when run down by SIR FAHRENHEIT (7) after chasing star trotter Majestic Simon in first two local starts. Will be strongly fancied again but needs to convert sooner rather than later.

SIR FAHRENHEIT (7) is a talented trotter who has recently changed stables, scored a stylish victory last week downing CLAUDYS PRINCE (5) and there’s no reason why he can’t win again. Drops in distance and goes back a further 10m but confidence is high.

RED CASTLETON (9) is a talented type who is capable of producing a good run while fresh. Has had two trials since latest effort and shaped nicely against pacers in most recent trial at this track. The handicap could be challenging but has some class on his side.

SELECTIONS: GODOFTHUNDER (1), CLAUDYS PRINCE (5), SIR FAHRENHEIT (7), RED CASTLETON (9).

SUGGESTED BET: GODOFTHUNDER (1) each way.
