Impact is about half way towards Velocity Bettina’s $162,990 in prizemoney earned across her career.
The Darren Russell-trained Deck Fifty Two ensured Impact did not have it all his way in the Final, running a mighty race as one of the $26 outsiders in the field, but could only get within a length of the in-form Ellis dog on the winning post.
Impact’s winning time in the final - 19.57 seconds – was just shy of his speediest time down the straight, which was 19.45 seconds.
Wearing the black rug did not concern Ellis at all going into the feature event.
“Box draw wise, it would not worry him,” Ellis said.
“He is like an old straight track dog, it does not matter what box he comes from, they come out and work their way into position.
“It did not matter what box he drew; he would work his way into the race.
“The first 50 metres usually determines a race like this.”
Impact’s kennel mate – Kaminari – also went around at Capalaba on Sunday and was beaten a nose in the Bob Vernon Maiden Memorial for 2021 by Clifford Houston’s Burnt Briar.
In the other feature races from Capalaba on Sunday, the Capalaba Cup Consolation race was won by Reformer, trained by Lee Wylie.
