Harness racing will return to Albion Park this Friday (1/4) as rectification works at the venue continue to progress.
The afternoon metropolitan meeting is the first to be held at The Creek following the South East Queensland floods in late February.
With limited power supply available at the venue, and testing of the track floodlighting yet to be completed, evening meetings are not able to be scheduled at present.
Two feature races – the Group 3 Jim McNeil Trotting Championships and Our Overanova Trotters Marathon – which were scheduled to take place on Saturday, have been pushed back one additional week in order to aid participants’ preparation.
A rescheduled date for both features will be confirmed later this week.
With works on the harness racing track being recently completed, the Albion Park Harness Racing Club last week held a successful workout session to provide horses and drivers the opportunity to trial the surface.
A further workout session will be held this Wednesday ahead of the track’s return.
Confirmation of next week’s racing schedule will be provided in the coming days.
Meanwhile, works on the greyhound track at the venue continue, with the track’s sand profile set to be replaced next week.
Once completed, trialling will be able to recommence, with a return to racing as soon as practical thereafter.
