Jubai Pride a mystery on Polytrack

The John Gilmore stable believes consistent mare Jubai Pride is primed for another win but questions remain whether it’ll be at the Sunshine Coast Polytrack on Wednesday.

Jubai Pride was scheduled to start at the washed-out Doomben meeting last Saturday and will instead take her place in the Class 4 Handicap over 1400 metres.

The four-year-old daughter of Pride Of Dubai was successful on the grass at the Sunshine Coast in late January before storming home for second to the Toby and Trent Edmonds-trained The Lioness over 1350 metres at Doomben on February 12.

“Her last run was huge behind The Lioness when there was no pace on,” said Gilmore’s son and stable foreman, Corey Gilmore.

“She had to make a late run and only just got beaten.

“She’s unknown on the Polytrack so that’s a bit of a concern but we’ve got a Polytrack here at the Gold Coast and she‘s done a fair bit of work on it.

“She loves the sting out of the ground so hopefully she can handle it.”

Gilmore said the other major concern was whether the roads from the Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast will remain open following the recent rain deluge.

“The other major problem we may or may not have, is getting to the track with all the road closures from the recent rain,” he said.

“If she gets there and runs, she’ll be very hard to beat.”

Jubai Pride – a Larry Cassidy mount – started her career with fellow Gold Coast trainer Michael Costa but only had two barrier trials before transferring to the Gilmore yard.

“One of her owners is a part owner of Sea Raider and he suggested she come to us when she needed a more hands on trainer,” Gilmore said.

“She’s by Pride Of Dubai and they say they get better with age so long term we’re looking at next year’s Magic Millions carnival again.

“She ran a great race to finish fifth in the Rising Star at the Gold Coast in January so we’re looking at the Magic Millions fillies and mares race next year.

“She drew a bad gate in the Rising Star and got back but she was very strong to the line.

“She’s only tiny but since then she’s increased her weight and has done enormous.”
