QBRED will continue to solidify its status as the nation’s premier breeding incentive bonus scheme for harness racing in 2023.
QBRED will again see more than $3.5 million in bonuses up for grabs this year – along with more than $500,000 in feature race stakes.
The successful first-win bonus initiative returns in 2023, with $14,000 on offer when a QBRED-registered standardbred registers its first success in the Sunshine State.
The $7,500 second-win bonus will also be maintained.
Following its success in recent years, the ‘Transitional QBRED’ program, which allows Queensland breeders to bring in-foal mares to the subsequent foal eligible for the scheme, will also continue.
After its stellar success earlier this year, the QStars evening will once again shine a light on the brightest QBRED stars, featuring four Triads for two and three-year-olds, while also incorporating QBRED trotting features for the first time.
In order to participate in QBRED for 2023, owners or breeders need to complete and return the nomination form to Racing Queensland without payment by December 1, 2022.
RQ will then forward an invoice for payment by February 28, 2023.
The payment structure will again be streamlined to the discounted ‘series fee’ – as the phase out of the ‘single year fee’ option continues – following widespread adoption of this option in recent years.
RQ Executive General Manager - Operations Adam Wallish said QBRED continues to set the standard as the nation’s premier breeding incentive scheme for standardbreds.
“We have seen the QBRED scheme take significant strides in recent years, and firmly believe that it remains the best breeding scheme available nation-wide,” Mr Wallish said.
“With more than $2.9 million in bonuses paid out last year, we have made further enhancements in order to support Queensland participants.
“We unashamedly want people to back Queensland, buy Queensland and breed Queensland, and the QBRED scheme is a fundamental part of that commitment.”
With prize money for all races on Wednesday and Thursday set to be increased above $4,500 from January 1, the QBRED first and second win bonus threshold will increase from $4,000 to $4,500.
Finally, the Additional Trotter eligibility (clause D) will be phased out of the QBRED scheme from 2023/24.
Progeny of mares inseminated by these stallions outside of Queensland during the 2022/23 breeding season will remain eligible for QBRED, however this will cease as a result of trotting stallions now physically standing in Queensland.
