Steven Scott returns to training with a bang in Central Queensland

Former Group-level conditioner Steven Scott admits a pair of winners on his first day back in the training ranks has lit a fire in him as his return to the code builds momentum.

The formerly Churchable-based Scott is best known for the deeds of the now retired star dog Farmor Beach.

Farmor Beach was a prestigious Vince Curry champion early in his career back in 2020 before making a number of big Finals, including contesting the Golden Easter Egg Final at Wentworth Park in 2021.

The brindle dog spent time being trained by Steven as well as his father Wayne Scott during his racing career.

As the 23-time career winner neared retirement, Wayne took over the training duties as Steven took a slight step back from the industry.

Steven last prepared a dog in his own name in March of 2020 at Ipswich.

He returned with a bang earlier this month in Central Queensland, collecting two victories from four starters in his return to the caper.

“It was a good feeling,” Steven said.

“The feeling that I got when that dog won, it lit something again inside of me.

“I have always loved the animals and I would like to have not had a break and kept chipping away with the dogs in Brisbane.

“The industry has been good to me over the years. People always seem to come back into the industry.”

The two return winners for Scott came with dogs who also carry the Farmor prefix: Casual and Iconic.

They got the cash at the Rockhampton Monday meeting of last week.

After previously preparing his kennel around SEQ, Scott has relocated to Sarina – which is just south of Mackay in CQ – and will now predominantly focus his attention on Rockhampton racing.

He had a few more from his team race last Wednesday at Rocky and has five entered for the Wednesday card of racing this week, as well.

Scott is working with a kennel of around a dozen.

After training dogs on a full-time basis for a job earlier in his life around SEQ, Scott says he is enjoying doing it as a hobby on a lower scale these days.

“It is a lot more fun this way,” he said.

He has picked up a glut of dogs from Oxenford dog man David Bailey who was looking to scale back his operation.

“They broke in really well and the thought was the dogs needed a bit more of a go,” Scott said of the team of dogs he is working with.

“If their form comes back and they turn out as good as from the reports from their break in's then will head back down to trainers in Brisbane or wherever they end up.”

The Scott family have recently sold their Churchable property to the leading Britton greyhound racing clan from Victoria who have now opened a brand new satellite kennel from it.

Steven – a house painter by trade - has long turned to champion conditioner Rob Britton for advice and guidance with his dogs.

As well as the racing dogs, retired star Farmor Beach is also enjoying life in Central Queensland.

“He goes for a walk along the beach and loves it,” Steven said.

“We are best mates.”

Farmor Beach also has a Group 2 Ipswich Gold Cup on his resume, as well as a Silver Dollars triumph at Albion Park.
