Trainer Stuart Kendrick believes unbeaten youngster Can't Recall One has the “wow factor” to deliver him an overdue Group win in the Sires’ Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Can’t Recall One - a Robbie Dolan mount - was a $NZ 90,000 purchase in New Zealand and is a $14 chance in the 1400 metre Group 2 feature.

The son of Reliable Man has been ultra-impressive winning his only two starts prompting interest from Hong Kong to buy him.

“We had some early offers from Hong Kong to buy him but I’ve left all that up to the owners and so far they’re decided to keep racing him,” Kendrick said.

Dolan rode Can’t Recall One when he produced an eye-catching win on debut over 1300 metres at Eagle Farm on March 2.

However, he was later suspended and forfeited the ride to Michael Rodd who won on him over 1400 metres at Eagle Farm a fortnight later.

“It’s a big step up for him going to a Group 2 race but he deserves his chance,” Kendrick said.

“He was a real handful as a colt early days but since he’s been gelded he’s been foolproof.

“He’s got a great turn of foot and I don’t think his wide draw (barrier 14) will worry him too much.

“He gets back and likes to find his feet.”

Kendrick rated Can’t Recall One highly enough to consider sending him to Sydney for the recent autumn carnival.

“We threw in a nomination for the Baillieu Handicap and Champagne Stakes in Sydney before deciding to give him a let-up to concentrate on the winter carnival here,” Kendrick said.

Can’t Recall One will attempt to give Kendrick his first win at the highest level next month in the Group 1 J.J. Atkins over 1600 metres at Eagle Farm.

“I’ve gone close a few times in big races but just haven’t managed to win one,” Kendrick said.

“Charnley River ran second to Sacred Elixir in the J.J. Atkins (2016), Eric The Eel finished third in an ATC Derby and Fullazaboot ran into Sunlight when he finished second in the Magic Millions Classic (2018).

“Doubtfilly also just missed a place when she finished fourth in the Golden Slipper (2012) behind Pierro.”

Kendrick rates the James Cummings-trained Broadsiding as the main threat to Can’t Recall One.

Broadsiding will come in four places without the emergencies after drawing a horror gate of 21 in his bid to give Cummings his first BRC Sires victory.

Broadsiding has won two of his five starts and stamped his class winning the Group 1 Champagne Stakes over 1600 metres at Randwick last month.
