Trainer Danny Bougoure is hopeful of ending a near 12-month metropolitan drought with two starters at Ipswich on Wednesday.

Bougoure’s last city winner was with Azzareach at Doomben in August last year but the Gold Coast-based trainer is pinning hopes of ending his lean spell in town with Mouette and Jungle Law.

Mouette will be ridden by apprentice Tahlia Fenlon in the Benchmark 70 Handicap over 1100 metres while Jungle Law - a Ron Stewart mount- tackles the QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap over 1350 metres.

Bougoure, who is best known as the trainer of dual Group 1 winner Falvelon, has had limited city opportunities in the past 12 months after culling his stable.

“I haven’t had that many opportunities in town after I cleaned out the stable, but I’ve still got 21 horses in work,” Bougoure said.

“I’ve got two good chances at Ipswich, and I think both will be very competitive.”

Jungle Law is still a maiden after four placings from five starts and steps up sharply in grade against her own age.

The daughter of Jungle Cat was a $20,000 yearling buy at the Magic Millions March sales at the Gold Coast and is coming off a close second to the Marcus Wilson-trained Explicable in a Three-Year-Old Maiden over 1350 metres at Ipswich on July 22.

“She got a little lost last time so I’m putting blinkers on her which hopefully will straighten her up and help her find the line a bit more,” Bougoure said.

“I think she’s a good chance after drawing well and I’m not worried she’s still a maiden.

“She’s had a run at Ipswich which is an advantage and Matt Dunn’s Golden Decade is the one to beat despite its big weight.”

Bougoure has warned punters should put a line through Mouette’s recent performance when fifth to the Tony Gollan-trained Liquor in an 1110-metre Benchmark race at Doomben on July 13.

“Nothing went right for her that day, so I’m overlooking the run,” he said.

“She had a tough run sitting three and four wide and just ran out of steam in the last 100 metres.

“She should get a good run this time and she’ll be very competitive.”
