Race 1: Atherton Discount Drug Store QTIS Maiden Plate 1000 metres:
1st – SHE’S WANTED 2nd – HIDENA MAN 3rd – RED SHAWL 4th – DAZZLING PRIDE

MAYBE I’M AMAZED – Shifted in on jumping crowding another runner. Was taken wider on the track by another runner near the 700 metres. Was wide at the home turn.

SHE’S WANTED – Was crowded by another runner which shifted in on jumping.

REVERBERATING – Hung out near the 700 metres taking another runner wider.

Stewards delayed the declaration of Correct Weight at the request of Jockey P Cullen the rider of RED SHAWL who wished to view the patrol footage in order to determine whether or not he had grounds to lodge an objection against HIDENA MAN ridden by Jockey M Kai being declared 2nd placegetter. After viewing the footage Jockey Cullen elected to proceed with the objection on the grounds of alleged interference from the 600 metres to the 400 metres, stating that RED SHAWL had been severely hampered by HIDENA MAN which was inclined to hang out. After considering evidence from both riders as well as Trainers Ms J Ryan and Mr F Wieland, and examining available patrol footage of that part of the race, Stewards were unable to be comfortably satisfied that any interference which may have occurred had any bearing on the outcome of the event and dismissed the protest, declaring Correct Weight on the Judge’s placings.

Race 2: Alan Rockley Memorial Sports Fund Benchmark 60 Handicap 1000 metres:
1st – DAZZLUNA 2nd – NINETYNINEPERCENT 3rd – PHANTOM SOX 4th – TESTAMYCOLOURS

SILVER STAR – Was crowded between runners soon after jumping. Was hampered by another runner which was inclined to hang out near the 600 metres. Was wide at the home turn.

LADY FOXY – Was caught wide without cover in the early and middle stages.

TESTAMYCLOURS – Was wide at the home turn. Jockey K Rockett was fined $100 under the provisions of AR137A for excessive use of whip. Struck TESTAMYCOLOURS 8 times, some consecutive, prior to the 100 metres.

PHANTOM SOX – Shifted in marginally under pressure near the 100 metres slightly inconveniencing another runner. Jockey S Kaya was instructed to stop riding and straighten his mount in similar circumstances.

ZOE BAY – Was disappointed near the 100 metres when attempting to improve into a marginal run.

Stewards delayed the declaration of Correct Weight at the request of Jockey G Watson the rider of ZOE BAY who wished to view the patrol footage in order to determine whether or not he had grounds to lodge an objection against PHANTOM SOX ridden by Jockey S Kaya being declared 3rd placegetter. After viewing the footage Jockey Watson elected not to proceed with the objection and Correct Weight was declared on the Judge’s placings.

Race 3: Rocktrans Open Handicap 1000 metres:
1st – RAPT IN RUMBA 2nd – DESTRUCTION 3rd – KING MAGNUSSON 4th – DANE WILL DO

DANE WILL DO – Was fractious in the barriers.

DESTRUCTION – Lost ground at the start after rearing as the barriers opened.

SECRET STEALTH – Was slowly away.

KING MAGNUSSON – Was slowly into stride. Was wide at the home turn.

Stewards delayed the declaration of Correct Weight whilst they viewed head-on patrol footage of the start in order to determine whether or not Destruction had been denied a fair start. After viewing the footage Stewards were comfortably satisfied that the gelding which had reared as the barriers were activated had been afforded a fair start and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s placings.

WILD DIVA – Shifted out under riding near the 300 metres inconveniencing another runner. Jockey K Stone was issued with a reprimand under the provisions of AR137(a), careless riding, and was instructed to stop riding and straighten his mount under similar circumstances.

PRIMED FOR ACTION – Was caught wide without cover for the majority. Was inconvenienced near the 300 metres by another runner which shifted out under riding.

Race 5: McMahon’s Betta Home Living Atherton Benchmark 45 Handicap 1400 metres:

ONEEYED UNDERTAKER – Was very slowly away.

SERIKOS FLYER – Was slowly away. Was caught wide without cover in the early stages. App N Nelson reported that the mare may got its tongue over the bit in running.

Following the running of this event Stewards inquired into the reason BUSH VERSION was checked and lost its position in running near the 750 metres. As a result of this inquiry Jockey S Kaya pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that he allowed PENTHOUSE POPPY to shift in near the 750 metres causing BUSH VERSION ridden by Jockey P Cullen to be checked and lose its rightful running. Stewards suspended Jockey Kaya’s licence to ride in races for a period of 10 days to commence at midnight 19th March 2016 up to and including 29th March 2016. In determining penalty Stewards were mindful of Jockey Kaya’s forthright evidence and guilty plea, and the fact that the level of interference suffered by BUSH VERSION in the incident was considered to be in the low range.
