GENERAL

Jockey S Sheargold pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions AR 127 (1) (Failing to fulfil riding engagements) after dually accepting riding engagements in Race 4 (LEONARDA & NIGHT GUY), Race 6 (CIVITAS & ANSWERING) and Race 7 (ROTH’N’BELL & SPANISH BEANS). Stewards suspended the license of Jockey S Sheargold to ride in races for a period of 8 days to commence midnight 21 October 2023 and to conclude on midnight on 29 October 2023 (8 Days). In accessing penalty, Stewards considered that this was the 5th breach of this rule in recent times and further noted that the previous offences had attracted sizeable monetary penalties and a suspension. Jockey S. Sheargold was advised of his right to an appeal against the steward’s decision.

Race 1: BETTA HOME LIVING ATHERTON BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP – 1000 Metres

OLDTIMEROCK'N'ROLL – Slow to begin.

ROSE OF ATHENS – Began awkwardly. Restrained and altered course approaching the 100 metres when disappointed for a run when racing in restricted room to the inside of RISK IN ROME which shifted in under pressure.

MILLAA MISS – Slow to begin.

RISK IN ROME – Began awkwardly causing jockey L. Morrison to become unbalanced and lost ground as a result. A Post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a poor post-race recovery. Trainer A. Bailey was advised he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to it being permitted to trial or race again. Shifted in under pressure approaching the 100metres placing ROSE OF ATHENS in restricted room. Jockey L. Morrison was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.

AIR FORCE ACE – Raced wide for the majority of the race and compounded in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

THE LOUT – A Post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have injured it’s near-front tendon. Trainer D. Reynolds was advised he must provide a veterinary certificate of soundness prior to it being permitted to trial or race again.

RAMBLIN' MAN – A Post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a poor post-race recovery. Co Trainer P. Rowe was advised he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to it being permitted to trial or race again.

Race 2: TONKIN STEEL MAIDEN PLATE – 1400 Metres

MUMBO BOWLER – Slow to begin.

SHADOW ECLIPSE – Slow to begin. Raced wide in early stages before improving forward to race outside the leader near the 1000 metres. Shifted wider rounding the home turn.

TINY MOUNTAIN – Slow to begin. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight. Raced wide for the majority.

HELLO NEWMAN – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

Race 3: FEED & SADDLE SHED CLASS B HANDICAP – 1400 Metres

DIVINE WIT – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Compounded in the home straight. When questioned into the gelding’s performance ride M. Abe reported DIVINE WIT over raced in the early and middle stages and as a result was unable to run on. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Lost it near hind plate during running.

Race 4: ALWYN DAHL MEMORIAL OPEN HANDICAP – 1400 Metres

BONYTHON – Slow to begin.

NIGHT GUY – Slow to begin.

Race 5: COUNTRY STAMPEDE QUALIFIER OPEN HANDICAP – 1100 Metres

HALLSIDE HAMMER – Jumped out at the start inconveniencing STRATEGIST.

STRATEGIST – Inconvenienced on jumping. Rider J. Edwards advised steward’s on returning to scale that the gelding tended to lay out proving difficult to ride.

Race 6: WIGS FOR KIDS QTIS CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1200 Metres

ALLIED COMMAND – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start and reared as the start was effected dislodging jockey D. Sparks soon after the start. D. Sparks was examined by QAS officers and cleared of any injury and was able to fulfil his next engagement. Trainer S. Hoffman was advised she must provide a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.

DYSTOPIAN – Stewards questioned apprentice I. Teh in regard to her riding of the gelding in the early stages. Ms Teh advised DYSTOPIAN was unable to muster enough early speed to clear the runners to its inside and was caught wide running into the first turn and as such she elected to restrain from the speed battle and take a position closer to the inside rail. Steward’s noted her explanation.

ALEXANDRA MARGARET – Slow to begin. Stewards questioned jockey M. Abe in regard to the riding of the mare. Jockey Abe stated that in his opinion ALEXANDRA MARGARET was unable to extend any further and he was reluctant to test it any further. Whilst stewards noted his explanation, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out to the finish line.

KOHEETO – Raced wide for the majority.

BOWTIE BETTY – Raced wide for the majority.

RACATOON – Raced wide for the majority.

Race 7: ATHERTON WHOLELIFE PHARMACY & HEALTHFOODS RATINGS BAND 0 - 65
HANDICAP – 1200 Metres

Correct weight was delayed allowing rider D. Sparks (SIDE HUSTLE) which finished fourth, to view the race film to ascertain if he had grounds for an objection against SPIRIT MEISTER which finished second alleging interference soon after the start. After viewing the available footage, he declined to proceed and correct was given on the judge’s semaphored numbers.

SPIRIT MEISTER – Bumped heavily on jumping on three occasions and became unbalanced. Laid in a short distance later placing SIDE HUSTLE in restricted room.

SIDE HUSTLE – Shifted out on jumping bumping with SPIRIT MEISTER on three occasions. Raced in restricted room for a short distance shortly after the start.

MACIPENKO – Began very awkwardly causing apprentice I. Teh to become momentarily unbalanced. A post-race veterinary examination of MACIPENKO identified the presence of blood in both nostrils. MACIPENKO shall not without the permission of the Stewards: (a) be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two months; (b) start in any race for a period of three months, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1000 metres in the presence of a Steward. AR 79(4)
