Racing Queensland Stewards ReportBUNDABERG RACE CLUB: 19 March2016.Weather: Fine Track: Sand Rail: TrueStewards: K Daly, C Fedrick, P Honeywill (club).Starter: A EmeryClerk of Scales: S MaherJudge: A NassoVeterinarian: Dr J MillwardBetting: StewardsRACE 1: BENCHMARK 55 HDCP 850 MetresPrior to the declaration of correct weight K Gates, rider of second placegetter MINTO’S LASS, lodged a protest against first past the post WATASHAM (App A Spinks), alleging A Spinks was in breach of AR137A in that he used the whip excessively prior to the 100 metres. After viewing the patrol DVD and taking evidence from all parties it was established App Spinks used his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100 metres, however stewards could not be comfortably satisfied his actions had materially affected the outcome of the race, and the protest was dismissed.WATASHAM – as had not started for over 18 months, was examined by the club Vet and cleared to start. App A Spinks was fined $100 under AR137A for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100 metres. BITTEN – jumped out at the start and hampered another runner. Rider S Bayliss was fined $200 under AR137A for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100 metres. HOPETOUN STREET – inclined to lay for the majority of the race. Rider J Hoopert reported he was of the opinion the mare did not appreciate today’s heavy sand surface. Trainer L Anderson advised stewards he would review the immediate racing future of HOPETOUN STREET.MINTO’S LASS – raced wide for the majority of the race.BRAWNY BABE – slow to begin.MY FRIEND IRMA – hampered at the start and lost ground.RACE 2: MAIDEN PLATE 1090 MetresDeclaration of correct weight was delayed to allow M Crawford, rider of second placegetter STRIKING WARRIOR, to view the photo finish image for first. After doing so correct weight was declared on the semaphored numbers.FRANCKY COLD MEDINA – slow to begin.GOVERNO – as had not started for over 15 months, was examined by the club Vet and cleared to start. CELTIC SPELL – when questioned regarding below market performance rider D Hayse stated the colt failed to handle the sand conditions and resented the kickback when racing behind runners. A post-race vet examination revealed sand in the nostrils and trachea of CELTIC SPELL. Trainer T Hess was reprimanded under AR117(3) for removing the horse from the track within the prescribed time.OUR HAPPY RAIN – raced wide for majority of the event.SHOCKWAVE – declared a late scratching at 11:30 am when no jockey was available.MONO GIRL – declared a late scratching at 1:38pm due to float breakdown. On declaration of correct weight stewards ordered all bets on MONO GIRL be refunded with deductions of 20cents win and 16cents place to apply on face value of all winning bets.RACE 3: RATINGS BAND 0-45 HDCP 1090 MetresBUCK THE SYSTEM – began awkwardly.MAH BAKER – at scale rider reported had a tendency to lay out for majority of the race. App M Savva was reprimanded under AR137(a) for allowing MAH BAKER to shift out under pressure leaving the 200 metres and hamper another runner.SOUL SERENADE – hampered leaving the 200 metres.BRADBURY’S QUEST – a post race vet examination revealed the gelding to be sore in the off fore leg. Trainer N Boyd indicated BRADBURY’S QUEST would now be retired but nonetheless was advised a Vet certificate would be required if these circumstances were to change.RACE 4: BENCHMARK 60 HDCP 1090 MetresISN’T HE A BEAUTY – raced wide throughout.TROPICAL HEATWAVE – when questioned regarding the below market performance rider I Coombes stated in his opinion the gelding raced flat today and may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer M Reardon concurred, advising TROPICAL HEATWAVE had been in work for 15 months and that it was his intention to now spell the gelding. A post-race vet exam revealed no abnormality.METALLIC POINT – slow to begin.HALLE CAT – cast off hind plate in running. RACE 5: OPEN HDCP 1212 MetresGLENTHORN AVENUE – blundered on jumping dislodging rider S Bayliss. S Bayliss was examined by club medical officers and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagement.RACE 6: CLASS B HDCP 1380 MetresSAURIMO – rider J Hoopert was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100 metres. In determining penalty Stewards took into account this was J Hooperts’ first breach of this rule.FRANKY COLD MEDINA – examined by club vet after competing in Race 2 and cleared to start. Slow to begin. Raced wide early and middle stages of the event.MR ROCKHARD – rider K Gates fined $200 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100 metres. STAR OF AQUARIUS – when questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider D Hayse stated the mare travelled well to the 500 metres but when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding.
