CORDIALE – Bumped on jumping away losing some ground.

MAMBO MISS – Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping CORDIALE.

MISS MARSEILLE – Hung out after rounding the first turn and continued to hang out for the remainder of the race. When questioned, rider J Hoopert explained that the horse hung out despite his efforts in the early stages and after passing the 700m he elected to not fight the horse further as he felt the horse was shifting wider when doing so. Trainer’s representative Mr S Jokic advised stewards that the mare would be retired from racing after today’s effort, but nevertheless stewards advised that if the mare was to continue racing a bar would be imposed for hanging out and the mare would have to trial satisfactorily before racing again.

LIFE BE IN IT – Reluctant to be competitive in the early stages. On returning to scale apprentice rider C Bayliss reported that the gelding resented the kickback in the early stages.

RACE 2:   MYOB Handicap Class B 1090m

FRANKY COLD MEDINA – Slow to jump losing several lengths. When questioned, trainer Mr W Melvin advised stewards that in light of today’s performance the gelding would be going for a spell. However, stewards advised him that a warning will be placed against the gelding for being slow to jump.

METALLIC POINT – On returning to the enclosure it was noted that the mare had bled from one nostril. After being examined by the veterinary surgeon, who confirmed that it had only bled from one nostril, trainer Mr Tony Hess was advised that the horse would be ineligible to race until it gallops over 1000m in the presence of a steward and to their satisfaction. Apprentice rider J Hodge dropped his whip approaching the winning post.

RACE 3:  The Ulton Cup Open Handicap 1090m

MIDNIGHT CURFEW – Fractious in the barriers and was then slow to jump and raced wide throughout.

SHOULDA TO SHOULDA – Shortly after the start was severely hampered and lost significant ground when impeded by a riderless horse. After passing the 600m raced wide for the remainder of the event.

OUTBACK LIGHTNING – On approaching the winning post had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of another runner.

JAMES IS BLONDE – Began awkwardly and shifted in causing rider J Hoopert to become unbalanced and then dislodged. The riderless gelding then shifted in further making heavy contact with SHOULDA TO SHOULDA, before falling over the inside running rail a few strides later. Post-race vet examination revealed the gelding to have lacerations to its body and head trauma causing blood loss from one nostril. Trainer Mr B Murray was advised that the gelding would be barred from racing until a veterinary certificate of soundness is produced and the gelding perform in one official barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards. Jockey J Hoopert was examined by QAS personnel and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.

COLD BLOODED – On jumping was bumped between runners and lost some ground and then resented the kickback in the early stages of the event.

BINESI – Had a tendency to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.

ISIS SPINNER – Slow into stride.

ARTISTIC CHOICE – Tired over the concluding stages. When questioned regarding the manner in which he rode his mount to the line, apprentice rider J Hodge stated that as the horse was tiring he felt he had ridden the horse out sufficiently. After viewing the film in the presence of his Master he agreed he may have been a little soft over the concluding stages and was therefore reprimanded for failing to ride his mount out to the finish line.

AL’S DREAM – Prior to the race trainer Mr J Munce advised stewards that he would instruct apprentice E Cass to refrain from using the whip on the gelding as he believed the gelding resented it. The gelding was ridden accordingly.
