Weather: Fine Track: Sand Rail: True
Stewards: K Daly (Chairman), P Honeywill (club)
Starter: A Emery
Clerk of Scales: M Honeywill
Photo-Finish Operator: A Nasso
Veterinarian: Dr K Schroder

General: on arrival at the track at 10:30am, a Stewards inspection revealed a section of the track near the 300 metres requiring remedial work following heavy overnight rain. Following the completion of this work the track was inspected by Stewards and a delegation of senior riders prior to the first event and found to be in a satisfactory condition.

Race 1: MAIDEN PLATE 850 Metres

MR FUJI – rider M Crawford was reprimanded for use of the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100 metres.

PLUCK A WINNER – raced 5 wide throughout

ROCKSHORE – raced 4 wide throughout. When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance trainer K Afford stated the geldings most recent starts had been at TAB venues. He added that the drop back in distance, along with the sand racing surface which suits ROCKSHORE, contributed to todays forward showing.

WICKED GIRL – began awkwardly and lost ground at the start. Rider R Faehr was reprimanded for use of the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100 metres.

Race 2: 0-65 HDCP: 850 Metres

After initially semaphoring placings of 1-6-5-2, Stewards, in consultation with the official judge and acting under AR156(1), amended the placings to correctly read 1-6-5-4, and correct weight declared.

No racing incidents.

Race 3: OPEN HDCP 1090 Metres

Correct weight was delayed to allow the connections of second placed horse GENDEBIEN to view the photo finish image for first. After doing so correct weight was declared on the semaphored placings.

AL’S BRIEF – leaving 200 metres shifted in and bumped LIL RUBY ROSE before being corrected by its rider.

LIL RUBY ROSE – bumped leaving the 200 metres

TAPESTRY VISION – slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.

CLASS B HDCP 1212 Metres

DIA VERNON – raced wide throughout. Trainers representative Mr M Murray was asked to comment on the apparent improved performance compared to the geldings most recent start when finishing last beaten 18 lengths at Gympie on 26/11/19. Mr Murray stated DIA VERNON led on that occasion and was not suited by the 1470 metre distance of the event. He added the gelding is better suited to races over shorter distances and that the stable was confident of a forwarding showing as the horse had worked well leading up to today’s event. Stewards noted the explanation.

MAY I SAY – blundered on jumping and lost ground at the start.

FLOSSY TOP – raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event.

Race 5: BENCHMARK 60 HDCP 1380 Metres

TEN TAUBADA’S – when asked to comment on the below market performance rider H Phillips stated gelding after beginning well, travelled comfortably in the lead however when placed under pressure near the 400 metres failed to respond to her riding and was disappointing. Trainer D Gardiner similarly expressed disappointment in the performance and advised Stewards he would report any condition that comes to light in the coming days.

KALANGADOO CHROME – rider M Crawford was fined the sum of $100 for use of the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100 metres. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account M Crawford had reprimanded for a similar breach in Race 1.

TONTEIN – app G Hayes reported the gelding resented the sand kickback in the early middle stages of the event, however responded to his riding when shifted wider on the track from the 400 metres. He added he was of the opinion TONTEIN is better suited to races over a longer distance than that of today’s event.
