Steindl Race 1:WHITE CLAW REFRESHR Class B Handicap (850 METRES) ELKA ELEVEN – Raced wide throughout. Momentarily shifted out abruptly near the 200m. Raced below market expectations, when questioned, apprentice B. Moffet stated that the gelding settled well but when asked to improve ELKA ELEVEN did not respond to his riding and proved disappointing. He also stated that in his opinion the gelding did not appreciate the racing surface. ROCK DREAMER (NZ) – Trainer D. Rideout reported to stewards that ROCK DREAMER (NZ) was involved in an incident in the float when in transit to the meeting, subsequently a pre-race vet examination revealed minor abrasions to the offside ribcage. The gelding was declared a late scratching on vets advice at 12:20pm. Trainer D. Rideout has been advised that the gelding would require a vet clearnace prior to next start. REVITUP CHARLIE – Jumped awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Laid out under pressure down the home straight. TESSELEIGHT – Raced wide throughout. Race 2: JAMES SQUIRE Maiden Plate (1090 METRES) BEATLEMANIA – Raced wide throughout. BOITUMELO – Fractious prior to start, as a result jumped awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Race 3: BYRON BAY BREWERY OPEN Handicap (1090 METRES) THETOYBOY – Stewards permitted apprentice H Gillie to ride after not being able to claim her full allowance of 2kg. Slow into stride. TRAITORS’ GATE – Raced wide throughout. CONAIR – Raced wide throughout. Race 4: HAHN SUPER DRY BENCHMARK 50 Handicap (1212 METRES) ANTHROPICA – Threw head in air on jumping, as a result began awkwardly. Raced below market expectations, when questioned, apprentice H. Gillie stated that this was the mare’s first start on a sand track and resented the kick back. Trainer T. Thomas was reprimanded under LR28(1) for failing to produce ANTHOPICA’S Identification card when asked by stewards. CHILLI PALMER – Raced below market expectations, when questioned, apprentice S. Willis stated the gelding failed to responded to her riding. She also stated that CHILLI PALMER laid out throughout the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. SASSY CHOICE – Raced wide throughout. RAINBOW DREAMS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers and was cleared to start. FEND OFF (NZ) – Slow into stride. Race 5: XXXX GOLD QTIS BENCHMARK 60 Handicap (1380 METRES) JELLISHOT – Raced wide throughout. Momentarily hampered near the 200m by MASTER DRUMER which shifted out. COYOTE (NZ) – Slow to begin. MASTER DRUMER – Approaching the 200m shifted out momentarily hampering JELLISHOT. Apprentice B. Moffet was reminded of his obligations to stop riding and straighten his mount in similar circumstances. EMPIRE CLUB – Slow into stride. Jockey H. Phillips reported that her mount proved disappointing, in her opinion she believes the gelding failed to back up from last week’s start.
