BABU KING – Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.

NO BETTER AFFAIRE – Jockey D Boutet reported his mount had failed to handle the softer track conditions of today. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.

BRAIDWOOD QUEEN – Began awkwardly. When questioned in relation to obtaining a significant lead during the middle stages apprentice P Carter stated that it was her intention to lead however not obtain such a significant lead during the middle stages as she elected to allow her mount to travel where comfortable. She further added that her mount had travelled well during the middle stages and was placed under some pressure from the 500m in which her mount responded before giving ground over the final 150m. Ms Carter also added that the mare is first up today from a six week break and would derive fitness benefit from today’s run. When considering the statement from the rider, the exposed form of BRAIDWOOD QUEEN and the mare being first up after six weeks, stewards do not feel the tactics adopted were not totally unreasonable in the circumstances.

RACE 5: EAST END HOTEL CLASS B HANDICAP (1380 METRES)

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow trainer G Blake (MUSSEL LINES) to view the available replays to ascertain if there were grounds for a protest against 2nd placed (TIME TO TURN) in the home straight. After doing so, he elected not to proceed and correct weight was declared on the judges numbers.

JUST BINGO – Began awkwardly bumping TIME TO TURN. Over raced in the middle stages.

CLAUDIUS – Over raced in the early stages. Inclined to lay inwards when placed under pressure in the home straight.

GARTAN – Apprentice B Moffatt was fined $300 under AR143(14)(a) for failing to claim his full allowance. When considering penalty stewards were mindful of Mr Moffat’s poor record over the previous twelve months and his guilty plea. Apprentice Moffat was permitted to retain the ride as he was able to claim 1.5kg of the 2kg allowance and there were no other apprentices available. Slow to begin and failed to muster any early speed trailing the field during the early and middle stages. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Trainer T Thomas was advised that a warning would be placed on the geldings record for being uncompetitive.
