Small, the rider of HOAGY, made an application to have his mount declared a non-runner. After taking evidence from jockey Small and the starter and viewing the patrol footage, it was established that the horse was fractious in the barriers resulting in it missing the start by some distance. As stewards were satisfied that the horse’s own barrier manners resulted in it missing the start, it was therefore declared a runner and correct weight was declared.MOSPORT – Slow to begin. B. Looker reported that his mount raced ungenerously throughout.DAZZLING SHIRAZ – When questioned regarding the horse’s seemingly improved performance, trainer Ms J. Crompton stated that the gelding was found to be suffering from a virus following its last start and added that the gelding was suited by today’s step up in distance over which it had previously performed well when ridden in a similar forward position.PROSPECTING – Shifted in when being steadied to avoid the heels of tiring runners near the 250m, made contact with the running rail and became unbalanced.ROCKWATER – As the gelding had not raced since April 2015, it underwent a veterinary examination which cleared it to start.
