GENERAL

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer B. Robinson for the late declaration of riders in Races 2, 3 and 5.

RACE 1: TED AINSWORTH C,G&E CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200M

WEHRMAN – Raced four wide without cover. Had to be steadied when FROGMOUTH shifted out to improve its position approaching the 300m. When questioned regarding her tactics, apprentice S. Lacy explained that she was instructed to try to obtain a forward position, however after travelling a short distance and being unable to cross other runners, she felt that she could not restrain the gelding any more to come back and therefore was caught racing four wide for the majority of the event. Apprentice Lacy agreed with stewards that in hindsight it may have been a better option for her to make greater effort to restrain the horse passing the 1000m and obtain a position closer to the rail.

STAR HERO – J. Missen reported that his right knee struck the barrier partition on jumping.

LETTER BOX – Apprentice A. Van Der Sanden was reprimanded for failing to claim her full allowance. Raced three wide throughout without cover.

SNIPPET EXPRESS – Slow to jump.

RACE 2: QPSIG F&M CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200M

VINTAGE BEAUTY – After being slow to jump improved its position to race behind the leader and overraced in the middle stages.

SNITZEL’S BELLE – Had to be steadied when tightened approaching the 400m.

STRUCTURAL DAMAGE – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Laid in when tiring approaching the 400m, tightening another runner.

POP BUBBLE POP – Tightened on to another runner approaching the 400m.

HUSSY ROCKSTAR – When questioned regarding the horse’s improved performance, trainer B. Robinson’s representative advised that although the stable was surprised by today’s improved performance, the mare had been working well leading into the event. She added that in recent starts the horse had been reluctant to race between runners and as a result the instructions today were to position the horse to the outside of other runners and as a result of today’s firm track and racing wide over the concluding stages the horse ran on accordingly.

RACE 3: XXXX GOLD MAIDEN H'CAP – 1400M

LIKEAPOSTIE – Fractious in the barriers. Slow to jump. Bumped by another runner over the concluding stages.

WHY THE LONG HEAD – Held up approaching the home turn.

FASTQUEST – Held up approaching the home turn.

DASH THING – Slow to begin and then bumped by another runner.

VOANABA – Overraced in the early and middle stages and had to be steadied off heels approaching the 600m.

DEVIL’S RUM – Raced three wide throughout without cover. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.

DIME THIEF – Began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with another runner. Approaching the 900m had to be steadied off the heels of COUP DE VALOR, which shifted in when not fully clear. Rider N. Masuda was reminded of his obligations to provide sufficient clearance when shifting ground.

LITTLE BOMBER – Bumped by another runner at the start. Forced in onto another runner over the concluding stages.

OUR MAN KANE – Began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with another runner.

STORMY DEEDS – Raced four wide after passing the 700m. Shifted in when tiring over the concluding stages, forcing another runner inwards.

RACE 4: RAILWAY HOTEL QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1050M

GLEN ORD – Slow to jump. Raced greenly rounding the home turn and shifted wider on the track.

MOVING PRESS – Raced four wide without cover in the early stages before improving to a three wide position without cover after passing the 700m.

ROBODAN – Began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with HAROLD VICTOR. Had to be steadied from heels approaching the 850m when racing between CAPTAIN TO A TEE on the inside and HAROLD VICTOR on the outside, which shifted in marginally. Hung out after rounding the first, then continued to hang out for the remainder of the event and tired badly in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer R. Smith was advised that the gelding must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to being permitted to race again.

SHEZA HOTTI – Kicked by another runner prior to the start, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to take its place in the field. Began awkwardly, shifted out and tightened TRIP TO RIO. A post-race veterinary examination revealed an abrasion to the inside of the filly’s off hock.

TRIP TO RIO – Tightened for room at the start and was then slow to muster speed. Had to be steadied approaching the 400m when racing in restricted room between JACKPOT JOKER and CAPTAIN TO A TEE, both of which shifted marginally.

RACE 5: CLEAR SUMMER LODGE RATINGS BAND 0-60 H'CAP – 1050M

LIFE’S LIKE THAT – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages, inconveniencing MRS ASIA.

PRESS SECRETARY – Trainer M. Brosnan was fined $100 for the late declaration of C. Small as rider. Raced three wide in the early and middle stages. Brushed with another runner approaching the winning post.

OH MY ROCKET – Bumped at the start.

OLJA – Began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with OH MY ROCKET.

POCILLO – Began awkwardly and lost some ground.

MRS ASIA – Inconvenienced over the concluding stages. Brushed with another runner approaching the winning post.

RACE 6: MEGA QUALITY FUELS RATINGS BAND 0-60 H'CAP – 1650M

After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage, M. Wilson, the trainer of ALBERT’S CHOICE, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against CHEEKYBOI being declared the winner, alleging interference rounding the first turn. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, it was established that approaching the first turn IDAHO brushed the running rail for a short distance and then shifted out abruptly, making heavy contact with CHEEKYBOI, forcing that horse out, despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in ALBERT’S CHOICE, which was racing to the outside of CHEEKYBOI, being shifted wider on the track. As stewards could not apportion blame for the incident to the racing characteristics of CHEEKYBOI, the protest was dismissed and correct weight declared on the Judge’s placings.

CHEEKYBOI – Commenced to overrace after being forced wider on the track rounding the first turn, and approaching the 1000m was allowed to stride forward to obtain the position in the lead.

ALBERT’S CHOICE – Began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with ROYALTOWN ROAD.

ROYALTOWN ROAD – Bumped at the start. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn and had to shift back to the inside to obtain clear running in the straight.

THE GOLDEN PIG – Brushed the running rail whilst overracing after passing the winning post on the first occasion.

IDAHO – Made heavy contact with the running rail approaching the first turn, shifted out and forced CHEEKYBOI out on to ALBERT’S CHOICE. Placed awkwardly at the heels of the tiring THE GOLDEN PIG at the 300m.

SO HOT – Stewards accepted trainer E. Ensby’s explanation for the late scratching of the horse at 8.12 am.

RACE 7: BARRIER REEF POOLS CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1400M

HENRYVONHUFEISEN – Held up for clear running approaching the home turn and had to shift back to the inside to obtain clear running after straightening.

EVERYBODY HAPPY – Shifted in near the 1100m and made contact with WISCONSIN, which was forced to the rail.

FRISCO JOE – Shifted in under pressure in the run to the finish.

WISCONSIN – Bumped near the 1100m and forced to the rail.

ROMAN SILVER – Began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly shortly after the start.

TEAR US APART – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
