GENERAL

As P. Hammersley and apprentice B. Panya were injured and as M. Murphy was to be overweight in Races 1 and 5, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Apprentice M. Murphy was fined $200.

Race 1: RAILWAY HOTEL CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1650M

LATCHY’S GIRL – Inconvenienced and forced wider rounding the first turn.

POP BUBBLE POP – Began awkwardly. Force wider rounding the first turn, then raced wide for the remainder of the event and finished tailed off.

ENTER SANDMAN – Began awkwardly. Inclined to lay in over the concluding stages.

DASH THING – Began awkwardly.

UNIT – Hung out for a major part of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the near foreleg. Trainer K. Kelly was advised that the horse must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to being permitted to race again and that a veterinary clearance will also be required. Mr Kelly advised stewards that the horse would be retired from his stables.

Race 2: TRADE ALLIANCE QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H'CAP – 1050M

TRUSTED MAGIC – Trainer M. Palmer was fined $100 for the late declaration of F. Jervis as rider.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to afford R. McMahon, the rider of 4th placegetter HIDDEN BUDGET, the opportunity to view the photo finish image.

CALISTO – Slow to begin. Steadied from heels at the 250m.

HIDDEN BUDGET – Race wide in the early and middle stages without cover.

Race 3: DERBY DAY RACES MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M

SQUIDINKUM – Lost the off hind plate in running.

FEISTY GEM – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination as the horse had not started in the last 12 months and was cleared to race.

GUADALUPE – Raced wide throughout.

RATTANA – Raced three wide without cover.

THINK I’M BETTER – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

Race 4: XXXX GOLD RATINGS BAND 0-55 H’CAP – 1050M

BAIO – Made heavy contact with another runner on jumping away.

VULCANIC DRAGON –Steadied from heels at the 800m. S. Wilson, the rider of BAIO, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. Steadied from heels when the pace slackened at the 600m.

LOVESONG – A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the near foreleg. Trainer S. Wheelahan was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance before being permitted to race again.

CRUSADER KING – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination as the horse had not started in the last 12 months and was cleared to race.

ENCORE SALL – Began very awkwardly and lost ground, then commenced to overrace. Held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn.

CHAMPAGNE FLYER – Made heavy contact with another runner on jumping away.

Race 5: BARRIER REEF POOLS F&M RATINGS BAND 0-62 H'CAP – 1200M

PERFECTLY SWEET – Began awkwardly.

STRADA HILL – Slow to begin.

POCILLO – Began awkwardly. Momentarily held up on entering the home straight.

LIPREAD – Became fractious when being saddled and was momentarily cast in its race day stall. After being examined by the veterinary surgeon the horse was declared a late scratching at 3.30 pm on veterinary advice. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on LIPREAD be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to wagers placed prior to 3.30 pm:

8 cents in the dollar for the Win #4
7 cents in the dollar for place of winner #4
13 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #10
9 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #1

BUKEKAYO – Tightened for room rounding the home turn and became unbalance when STRADA HILL (K. Stanley) shifted in. K. Stanley was reprimanded.

Race 6: MEGA FUELS C,G&E RATINGS BAND 0-62 H'CAP – 1200M

CANNY EXCEL – Raced wide throughout. Apprentice B. Ainsworth reported that after being slow to begin and then shortly after being tightened for room between runners, her mount settled further back in the field than anticipated

ENSIGN – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

SPECIAL JAY – Trainer D. Vandyke advised that it would be the intention to ride the horse in a forward position from the barrier today. The horse settled in a midfield position and race wide throughout.

Race 7: CLEAR SUMMER LODGE BENCHMARK 75 H'CAP – 1100M

BORIS BADENOV – Fractious as the start was effected and lost ground.

KNIGHT TEMPLAR – Slow into stride.

PYTHAGOREAN – Raced three wide.

ARABIAN KING – Raced three wide without cover throughout. When questioned regarding her tactics in the early stages, which resulted in her being forced to race three wide without cover, K. Stanley said that in hindsight she may have been better to ride forward, and that when racing wider her mount was inclined to hang out.

SUNSET HILLS – Stewards accepted trainer D. Murphy’s explanation for the late notification of a gear change.

TO A DEGREE – Late scratching at 4.00 pm on veterinary advice that the horse was lame in the off foreleg. Trainer T. Anderson was advised that the horse would require a veterinary clearance before being permitted to race again.

MINIVER – Shifted in under pressure at the 100m, resulting in the rider having to stop riding and straighten her mount.

PRIMED FOR DESTINY – Began awkwardly. Raced three wide.
