SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From ITC meeting, 23.9.16 – Race 3. Class 4 H’cap – 1350m

Following the disappointing performance of Voltaire Lumiere, trainer S. Lee reported that blood tests carried out on the gelding subsequent to the race failed to reveal any abnormalities. He added that the gelding had since pleased  him in its trackwork and that he would now carry on with the gelding’s current preparation.

GENERAL

As apprentice S. Lacy was to be overweight, in Races 3, 4, 5, 6, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.  S. Lacy was fined $500.

RACE 1:  DERBY DAY AFTER PARTY MAIDEN PLATE – 1050M

DOVANA – A pre race veterinary examination of the horse, which was kicked by another runner in the enclosure, cleared the mare to race.

REDAKTOR – Slow to begin.  Near the 600m when racing in restricted room to the inside of Penny For Them, made contact with the running rail and shifted out and bumped Penny For Them.

SEND US A SIGN – Slow into stride. Slightly held up for clear running in the early part of the straight. Raced wide throughout.

PENNY FOR THEM – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 600m was bumped by Redaktor. Shortly after when awkwardly placed at the heels of Dovana, blundered of its own accord, resulting in apprentice M. Shimodaira becoming unbalanced and then being dislodged.  At  a subsequent inquiry, stewards were not satisfied that any one rider was careless in their actions and took the matter no further.  A post race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the off fore tendon.  Apprentice M. Shimodaira was examined by the ambulance personnel and cleared of any injury.

DOVANA – Raced wide throughout.

ZASTYLE – Raced wide without cover.

RACE 2:  HAPPY BIRTHDAY WARWICK QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H'CAP – 1400M

SAGAJET – Change of tactics. Connections advised that the gelding would be ridden in a more forward position today.  Slow to begin. Jockey M. Hellyer reported he was unable to race more forward from the wide alley as the horse did not muster the necessary speed and  settled towards the rear of the field.  Raced greenly in the home straight when under pressure.

ASHIKO - Change of tactics. Trainer D. Forster advised stewards that from the wide barrier and blinkers on first time, the instructions were for the gelding to be ridden in a more forward position today.  The horse subsequently raced just off the speed.

RED RAGGA – Began awkwardly.  Trainer B. Robinson was questioned regarding the improved performance of the gelding.  He stated that, in his opinion, the horse does not appreciate racing on soft tracks, which it raced on at its last start, and after being trapped wide on the soft track weakened over the concluding stages. He noted 3 runs back at Lismore the horse failed on a soft track and between those 2 runs had raced competitively when racing on a good track, and that this was the basis of which he expected an improved performance today with the track being rated a Good 3.  Mr Robinson added that he doesn’t wager on his runners and was not aware of any support for his gelding today although he did inform the owners that he believed it would perform well today. Stewards noted his explanation.

ASTRONMIC – Began awkwardly. Inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.

CLANG AGAIN – Slow to begin. Near the 400m, after being brushed by Sagajet, shifted in marginally and clipped heels and blundered. Raced wide without cover throughout and tired over the concluding stages.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.  Trainer J. Walk was advised that the gelding’s nomination would be refused at TAB venues until its form improves at non TAB venues.

SAKAN – Slow to begin. Apprentice H. English reported at scale that her mount raced greenly throughout the event. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, apprentice H. English stated that she was given no specific instructions, adding the gelding was having its first start over 1400m. She stated it began only fairly and she elected to take up a position at the rear of the field.  Stewards advised they had concerns in the manner in which apprentice English rode the gelding between the 800m and 400m.  Apprentice English advised that as the gelding was racing greenly she elected to ride the horse conservatively in order to keep it balanced and run out the 1400m at its first start.  Stewards advised apprentice English she lacked vigour at that point of the race and noted the gelding was only placed under pressure after passing the 250m.   Stewards noted that whilst the gelding ran home only fairly when placed under pressure, they nevertheless  advised apprentice English not to leave herself open to question regarding the riding of her mounts, and were of the opinion that today’s ride lacked judgement and vigour to the required standard as a holder of a provincial license. Nevertheless Stewards were not comfortable that apprentice English’s actions were in breach or culpable under the rules and therefore took the matter no further.

THRU THE STORM - Had to be steadied from the heels of Clang Again, which was weakening near the 500m.

JESTA BOI – Had to be steadied rounding the home turn when tightened between runners.

TRUSTED MAGIC – Obliged to steady approaching the 300m to avoid heels.

RACE 4:  QPSIG CG&E CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200M

REIGNING THUNDER – Knuckled shortly after the start. Rounding the home turn when endeavoring to obtain clear running shifted back to the inside and momentarily hampered NO EQUAL. Shifted out under pressure near the finish line.

CLANGORANDA – Apprentice M. Murphy was fined $200 for failing to claim down to his riding weight.

SAGA MISS – Slow to begin.

ROYALTOWN ROAD – Slow to begin.
